i prefer metallica because: -hetfield's voice >>>>>>>>>>>>>> dave mustaine's -hetfield's guitar tone -the relative stability of the nucleus of the band which betters (or worsens, depends) then band's sound and attitude -the classic string of kick-ass albums vs. megadeth only works in a best-of kind of way for me -the humor they had in they heydays
that said, Holy Wars may be the best song to come from these 2 bands.

Megadeth. 80's metallica was pretty kicking, but Rust in Peace is the best thing either of these guys did, if you ask me. The riffs and solos are better (the lyrics are more or less a wash), and the songs are just plain more rad.

I ranked all of Metallica's and Megadeth's albums a while ago. Here's how it came up for me:
Ride the Lightning Rust in Peace = Master of Puppets And Justice for All Peace Sells But Who's Buying? = Kill em' All The Black Album Countdown to Extinction = Death Magnetic The System Has Failed Youthanasia Load Cryptic Writings Killing is My Business and Business is Good United Abominations Reload St. Anger = Risk The World Needs a Hero (I don't know why, but I hate this album)
So in retrospect, Metallica is better, but only slightly.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine checked in yesterday with a cryptic update that reads as follows: "Today is the 9th of April and I have agreed to doing something last night that I am sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about, and something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while. I can't confirm the band or the dates yet, and I have to go get my youngster up for school. Rest assured, as soon as we are ready to announce it, you will be one of the first to know." The comment has led the rumor mill to suggest that Megadeth will be taking to the road with Metallica on their previously announced North American tour this fall, though as the metioned above, nothing concrete has been offered yet.

Metallica. I mean, come on. Disposable Heroes.

If you put up both their masterpieces against each other (Master of Puppets vs. Rust In Peace), Puppets takes it. RIP has a few filler tracks that kill the flow of the album, while Puppets is classic straight through.

It looks like it's actually gonna be a tour with Slayer. I never knew Dave and Kerry King had a feud going.
