so two weeks ago during our regular bball game on monday night one kid totally lost it and threatend to literally kill someone if they didnt shut their mouth. and no, it wasnt me. the thing is, the trash talk that was being talked wasnt even of the mean variety.
theres a bit of a long story here in the spoiler to point out how some people cannot handle talking trash
the scenario: we have a kid (the one who snapped) who literally keeps track of his record through out the year. if we play as individuals, 6 games, he keeps track if he goes 4-2, 3-3, 1-5 etc. so he takes our pickup bball a little to seriously. hes a teacher in one of the less than stellar neighborhoods around here that has for lack of a better PC term, a high urban population and while he isnt a KKK member, he has a very low tolerance for the people he teaches due to the general disregard for respect these kids show towards anyone. (while i dont condone it, i have seen the general lack of respect many many many times)
so one of the nicer kids i have met playing ball, and i mean as a person, not just a ball player, who is one of this guys former students tells him, youre not winning this next game, i am going to shut you down. mind you this kid talking is known for his very laid back demeanor and is completely respectful of everyone, works a full time job at a bank, misses every wed of basketball because he has choir practice, goes to church every sunday etc.
so my friend snaps on him and is screaming to me and another guy that we better tell him to shut up, and i was like who? he says, that piece of shit from aliquippa. i jokingly said, who chuck? chuck being another black guy that plays with us. my friend says to me, no that other one. to which i started laughing, dew? dew aint saying anything what the hell.
but i saw this incredibly violent look in my friends eyes and i was just like dew, can you not say anything to steve, hes getting really pissed off, and at first dew thought i was joking, so dew hollars out, he steve and then flexes and laughs. well steve about shit his pants with anger and im like dew, seriously, hes beyond pissed right now. dew says to me, shit man im sorry, i thought he knew i was joking but ill shut up now cause i dont want to cause any problems for you guys.
well steve doesnt let it go and says you going to shut your mouth you going to shut up and then leans into dew and says, and i shit you not, have you ever killed someone? i have and i got away with it. to which dew says, sure, ill google it when i get home.
fast forward to the next night we played, i told steve, what the fuck is your problem with dew, you owe him a huge fucking apology for being a dick the last time and i hope you man up and actually apologize. i also reminded him of how many times he told dew he wouldnt win and that he was going to shut him down to which he denied ever doing so.
also steve has threatend to kick my ass for me running my mouth. one night i felt like they were calling all kinds of bullshit calls and one was such a bad call that tied the score up for them, as i ran down the court i told them all, it must suck to have to cheat like you guys do to get back into the game only to lose when i bust a three in all your faces, to which i actually did.
now i, as you may have guessed, constantly run my mouth. i dont have an off switch when it comes to basketball and i will just say stuff to say it, like, hey your shoes untied, could you get shorts that were any tighter, nice socks, im chewing gum. ill say anything to get the other guy to think about what im saying instead of having his mind on the game at hand, but i never say shit like your mom was great last night or you suck or anything "personal" like that
so my question to you is, when you play your sport of choice (though im thinking baseball/softball dont really count because swingbattabattaswing doesnt really count, does it?) do you talk shit?

you and i woulda had fun playing in the same hockey league. i used to irritate the other teams so bad because i would just randomly yell out WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo like i was ric flair
whether it was a good or shitty pass, whether the shot was on the net or not
I trash talk. I'm not a loud person by any means, and I really don't usually talk much. But trash talking is just such a fun part of competition. I will say I usually only trash talk people that I know and if I know how it effects them. I do it to sike people out, not to get them to want to punch me in the face lol. And I don't trash talk people that are better than me; that just seems stupid. I've never understood why someone I'm better than would trash talk me when all it does is fire me up and play better so I don't do it to people who I know could turn it on and beat me.
Favorite games to trash talk through: basketball, football, poker, chess, board games lol. My version of "trash talk" isn't insults at all; its usually based around telling people what I'm going to do and that they can't stop me.

excatly 4-5, but i will talk shit on people who are better than me, who are the same as me and who are worse than me. if anything, most if not all sports have a psychological edge to them that if you can say something that will make the person laugh or concentrate soley on you instead of whats good for the team, then you are helping your team

I talk trash in a subdued manner. So only the target can hear me. It's wonderful.

I don't know if you can even consider it trash talk, but there are so many poor losers when I play ultimate who take things way too seriously. So basically while they're freaking out at teammates for missing a pass or swearing at the top of their lungs because I blocked something, I just say things like "Get over it" or "Aw, it'll be ok". That seems to get people madder than anything else.
