...so i'm cleaning out my phone and came across a (crappy) picture that reminded me of a 'PJ encounter' not too long ago - and wondering what most PJ fans would have done: Several weeks ago, my girlfriend and I were walking around Greenlake in Seattle, and during one of the loops, walked past someone who caught the corner of my eye who looked EXACTLY like Mike McCready, walking his 2 boston terriers. I wasn't quite sure it was him, so we changed directions and were walking about 20 feet behind him, basically following him. A few more glimpses and I knew it was him and sort of felt like a total stalker (and a crazed fan) for even following him around. To preface, I'm totally not a autograph or celeb seeker, but when it comes to my favorite band - and the best guitarist in todays music times - I had to be sure. We followed him for about half a loop around the lake (my girlfriend thought I was nuts but was pretty amused by it all), and I never got enough balls to ask him for a picture - as I felt that he was probably sick of that and wanted his peace - but was AMAZED that not one person recognized him - but they all seemed to notice his dogs. Anyways, he soon left, and soon afterwards I was kicking myself for not getting my picture taken with him with my camera phone. (What do you say in situations like that anyway???) I did take a photo from afar with my phone camera which sucks and looks worse than the big foot photos. But just curious to other peoples take and what would you do in that situation? (keep in mind this isn't at a concert with no liquid courage beverages in the situation)

It's an intersting idea, never really imagine the band doing this kinda ordinary stuff, now i'm imagining ed taking a shit, having a smoke and writing the lyrics(to avacado hehe) on the john

I believe this is a "he lives there" situation so people aren't going to bother him. You did the right thing to leave him alone. I wouldn't have interrupted his walk. But I wouldn't do it around a show either. I'm always amazed at how people have no trouble approaching complete strangers who are famous. But I am a NYr so maybe I'm that way because of where I grew up.

Usually it's easy to talk to people with dogs. Just talk about the dogs... But it's different when it's someone you know who doesn't know you, I guess.
groetjes, Mirella

I would've asked for a picture. It only takes a minute, and since nobody else in the area recognized him, I doubt it would've turned into something. I understand he lives there and needs "quiet" time, but there are some trade-offs to being a famous guitar player. Besides, from his interviews and stories you hear from fans who have met him, he seems nice enough.

Out of all band members, Mike is the one that is most approachable. He admitted in the Imagine in Cornice DVD that he once hid under a bands limo (I think Scorpions maybe) to try and meet them after a show. I think he would have been cool about it if you were nice and respectful

I would have left him alone.
If someone is just out living their life, I think it's better just to let them be. Get that photo before or after a show, or sometime when he's in "Mike from PJ" mode, not "Mike walking his dogs" mode.
i've never been in a situation like this, but i think it would be ok to approach him, just make it quick and to the point, as in "hi, i'm a fan, could i have a pic?, thanks for the music, get rid of boom, see ya""
