wat? it's deadly! she's brilliant! of course American media is focusing on all the negative saying she's never been kissed etc..but she's going on Oprah next week & she has a special talent, no doubt about it! if you don't think so you don't have a heart.

I just think it's a little condescending how people are acting towards her 'cause she's older and obviously unattractive. "OH MY GOD, A HEAVYSET UGLY PERSON HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!! SHE MUST BE PART UNICORN?!?"
What does this say about society as a whole?

well there is a lotta cynicism about it & self examining about the fact she came on, everyone, everyone went 'oh great..another old crazy person' cos they show some of those for laughs..but her story is just amazing and it's lovely to see she got her chance and things are opening up for her. I wish her every success and hope to see her have a huge career from it. There's too much soulless talentless crap these days in music & entertainment but this person was genuinely talented and made a lotta people happy. 30 million youtube hits..she should get signed and release something soon and develop her talent.

I heard about her at work, I had no interest what-so-ever in seeing her, because every year they build someone up so you think they're gonna be shite then they happen to be pretty decent and that's about it.
My boss and workmate mentioned her earlier this week, I didn't bother about it, heard she had like 10m you tube hits, didn't seek her out, then saw her in the You Tube thread in GD, God I wish I'd seen it live on TV, just about the best thing I've seen in a long long time, if she doesn't win it, it would be a travesty. I was close to tears watching it.

i liked the whole thing because someone who deserved a chance got their chance. and it could change their life. yes it was all based on the "ugly broad who has a great voice you'd never expect" angle. but i was somewhat moved with the clip because of that and because it was probably a life changing event. even if she only sings songs for straight to video animated kids movies, shes now got a chance to do what she loves and make some money at it.

she's a very talented interpret, that's true but it's not really her performance that moved me - it's the overall hypocrisy displayed by almost everyone there. it may give hope to some people but to me, this video made me go "we're fucked". but as someone suggested it earlier in this thread, i took the opportunity to show it to my daughter, telling her to never underestimate someone because of superficial features.

Actually, so am I.
I mean I think it's pretty cool for these hidden talents to get discovered, but all the crap surrounding this is just fucking stupid. Noone would be surprised if she was a gorgeous 20-year old singing like that. Even though singing talent has absolutely nothing to do with how you look.
By the way, I didn't think her voice was that special at all. It was good, and in tune, sure, but nothing special. Maybe it was the song she sang, which I didn't care for at all.
