I like it. I remember me and my brother watching it as kids and endlessly repeating the part where he falls down the stairs on the door.

i hated this movie.

Enjoyed it a bit as a youngin. Watched it a couple years ago and was bored. But I pretty much have lost all appreciation for anything with Billy Crystal as I've gotten older. He's at least survivable as a bit part player, but even on Princess Bride he makes probably the least enjoyable scene.

You see, I'm not a Billy Crystal fan at all, and I can only stand Danny DeVito in small doses, but for some reason everything clicks in this movie. Perhaps it's because it's about writing, and writer's block in particular, that does it for me. Sure, some of the scenes start to scream cheesey 80's, but a lot of it is rescued by the scenes with Owen's momma. Also, perhaps I see my future in teaching English/writing at a community college and just hope that someday my life will be as exciting as a Hollywood movie is.

Kind of an attempt at doing what the Coens did with The Big Lebowski, except not funny or entertaining.

I still say "Owen doesn't have any friends" in the Momma voice, far too often.

On the downside, it's the type of movie where it will come on, my girlfriend will point at Owen and say, "That's you, you know."

Now Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot! on the other hand, there's a movie.

Devito cracking Crystal in the head with the skillet almost made me piss my pants when I first saw this.
