A friend recommended this to me. I thought it was really interesting This is just a sample
Seemingly after a few thousand years there won't be much left of our legacy on the Earth. The Earth constantly changing and replenishing, even after nuclear power plants going up in smoke. After 25000 years there will be another ice age that will truly wipe out all evidence of our existence. The only evidence of us won't even be on Earth. It'll be on the Moon.
They mention in the documentary that the Earth is so many millions of years old and our time here, relatively has been a blink of any eye.
So it got me wondering, could Earth have already housed another or more than once civilisation in it's time. Are we just another cycle?

It's just a simplified, slightly dumbed down version of Alan Weisman's book. Several of these popped up after the book came out. Cool as a visual doc, but Weisman's book is worth reading.

I've often pondered this same thing myself...usually after watching Planet of the Apes and wondering why the only record of humanity is the statue of liberty and some garbage in a cave.

There will still be fossil remains, so I find it highly unlikely that a civilization existed more than 25000 years ago.
There are always the legends of a "lost civilization" from over 10000 years ago all over the world, and some think that certain artifacts are evidence of that. The Sphinx in Egypt seems to be the best evidence of a pre-historic civilization of high sophistication. It does NOT date from the time of teh Pharaohs. It is much older.
