While it is common knowledge that the "Out of My Mind" b-side came from Atlanta on 4/2/94, the bootleg recording and the official release don't match up, specifically on the choruses. The verses match up with 100% accuracy, but the officially released b-side has been either tampered with, re-recorded, or remixed. Can you verify this discovery? Am I the first to figure this out? Is there an official story as to what happened? It's a deep cut favorite track for many fans and I know we'd like to hear about it. Thanks, -Warren

Maybe they spliced it with the performance on 4/6?
If memory serves, the date of the show it was recorded at was on the single. They could be bullshittin' though.

Some of the finer points are the same, like the feedback at the end prompting Ed to say, "I don't know what that was." Even though the bootleg isn't a soundboard recording, you can tell when the unofficial and the official recordings sync up. But Ed sounds drunk/inarticulate, almost like he hasn't solidified the lyrics during each line that follows the 2nd "Out of My Mind" in each chorus. Your comment makes me really want to hear the version from the MA show you mentioned.

Doesn't mean they can't do some in-studio wizardry to that show by mixing elements from another performance.
Thus, my line 'they could be bullshittin' though'.

I wouldn't put it past them to tweak the track a bit, even though it is a bit of a hack move. Didn't they record a lot of basic vitalogy material while on that tour?
