I got this idea from an article that was posted on imdb of all places, but i actually thought it was semi-interesting. I would be curious to know your list of actors that get a lifetime pass for past greatness in film.

Number one for me would be Harrison Ford. Some of my greatest childhood memories in film are directly connected to Indiana Jones, as well as that other space movie he was in ;)

He could keep on performing in mediocre films for ever and it will never change the fact that he's in my top 3 actors of all time.

i could care less what his mental process is, i have enjoyed him in nearly ever single movie i have seen him in, from losing it and legend to war of the worlds

Actually I agree.... None. I am not that big into movies so I have no attachments to anyone. So if a performance sucks, I call it as it is regardless of who it is.

Yeah, I mean, I love music more than movies, but I lose interest fast when an artist becomes a living-in-the-past kind of person...either producing safe, professional repeats of old ideas or simply bypassing new material and just going on tour. Why would I ignore the fact that I consider a lot of Harrison Ford's recent work to be incredibly tired, and his project selection to be just awful, just because he was awesome before?

All joking aside, I understand where you're coming from. I'm more into movies than music, and those early Harrison Ford movies had such a positive effect on my childhood that it's impossible for me to think of him in a negative light.

Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I think that's it for me.

I'm with McP, but if there was anyone, it'd be Seymour Hoffman, if only because I don't think he'd ever need the pass. The man is extraordinarily brilliant and I can't seem him going the way of DeNiro late into his career.

I'm with McP as well. I guess it depends on how you define "giving a free pass". I mean there are definitely actors that I love and out of that I'll pretty much always be willing to check out a performance, but ultimately I still judge each individual performance on its own, if someone stinks up the joint in a movie, I'll call them out for it.

 That guys is Flubber and Grease 2. That's all I got.

I don't really have a lifetime pass on any actor. Maybe Will Smith. He makes bad movies like Independence Day and Wild Wild West enjoyable.
