There, I said it. I think the movie has absolutely nothing to do with 'grunge', Michael Bolton would suit better for this movies soundtrack. I mean to me grunge never was or has been about these thirty-something yuppies who drive BMW, live in the suburb and go to concerts with suits on to drink cocktails, what the f*ck is that all about!? The scene where AIC is playing, I just can't watch it, I wanna throw a beer can to someone's face.. I think there is a reason we don't see Nirvana in this movie.
Now a movie where I would've gladly heard PJ's music is Richard Linklater's Suburbia. To me, that is what the 90's were about; alienated youth totally lost, fucking up their lives. It's not available on dvd but one may be able to find it through imdb discussion board. Anyways, I'll end my excellent post here.

It's not all black and white, rich and poor, good or bad. I assume you still like the soundtrack?

I saw Singles in the thearter with friends when it first came out, we were 17 and even at that age we liked the movie. Especially the sound track.

it isnt like the city was only filled with dirty grimey teenagers...seattle is actually in fact by and large...you ready...? A TOWN OF YUPPIES. and people of all backgrounds go to see local musicians, regardless of if they actually like the show/music or not.
and anyway, the movie isnt ABOUT grunge anyway, it is a love story with a grunge musician involved

PMA is basically correct. I don't know about the Seattle/ yuppies part since I've never been there. I guess the original poster just would've been happier of the musicians he loved had contributed their appearances and songs to a film with a different meaning or approach to the scene.

Singles is mediocre, but Almost Famous is quite good in mah book.

Truth be told, I don't think Cameron Crowe is all that great as a director (though I do have fond feelings for Say Anything).

Singles didn't stand up to the test of time like I thought it would when I was in college. Still, I went to that apartment complex in Seattle. That was sweet!

It's a cute movie. Though I suppose that's kind of the problem. I used to watch it all the time as a kid and even then I found it weird to have all these hardcore filthy rockers running around in the background of what is essentially a pretty standard romcom. It just seemed unnecessary, even if it is early nineties Seattle... it gave nothing to the plot, really, could have been placed anywhere in the world.

It had sappy romance for the women and bitchin' rock scenes for the men. What a date movie!

I agree. I never liked the movie either. I listened to the soundtrack for years and finally rented "Singles." I expected it to me all about music and "Singles" was some kind of reference to releasing music. Ya know, singles?
Anyway, I was sorely disappointed. The movies isn't all that good. I like the whole "scene" part of it, but it's really a small part of the movie. I dig PJ's scenes.

Call me crazy, but I will admit that I have a soft spot for this movie. There's some pretty funny shit in it, like little boy Steve telling his friends about sex and the wrong number scene with Tad. There's nothing particularly great about it overall, but it's enjoyable enough if you don't go into it with high or misinformed expectations. It's also the first movie I ever bought on DVD.
