Some plans do. Are you thinking of opting out of traditional medicine?

no. my roommate is really into herbal healing and acupuncture. recently i've come to believe her insurance covers this, which to me is shocking.

It depends on the plan really. Increasingly some things are covered... but that said you might be able to get a better deal outside of insurance coverage.

You should be able to find most of it out on your insurance company website or by speaking to a customer service rep. Or you can try an HR person with your company.

You can try and work out rates with them depending on what they do. The trouble in my experience with a lot of that stuff is that they try to get you in several times a week.

My sister-in-law is into this. Her plan covers homeopathy, acupunture, chiropractic. It's weird, my friend was just denied an MRI ordered by her doctor for a joint problem in her knee because she broke that leg in a car accident a long time ago. They contend that the knee problem is a pre-existing condition. But my sister-in-law goes to a chiropractor who prescribes homeopathic remedies to deal with her adult attention deficit disorder, and it's covered by her insurance.

i'd much rather see insurance companies treat pre-existing conditions than waste money on procedures science has shown hold no medical weight whatsoever.

No. And a lot of them will consider traditional treatments "alternative" so they they don't have to pay for them.
