i have never ever ever ever bought a cd or gone to a movie based on someone elses opinion. i dont care if the reviews are 100 totally against a movie claiming its shit or if 100 people tell me not to see it. if i think it is going to be good, the movie is going to get my money.

I find that there are certain red flag comments that tend to appear in trailers for or critiques of movies that I end up not enjoying...just as someone who doesn't care for romance movies probably has identifiers that make them go "Wait a minute: chick flick," or someone who has a problem with extreme violence looks for the name Tarentino connected to a film before going in. These little blips rarely, if ever, have been associated with a movie I loved and, since I'm not enough of a movie person to want to give two hours of my life to every single thing that comes along, I find this an effective system for not wasting my time.

Has anyone seen "Heckler?" Jamie Kennedy (the nerdy guy from Scream) does stand-up and he's also been in a lot of really horrible movies. So he started documenting his experiences and those of other stand-up comedians and their reactions to people screaming crap at them when they're onstage.

Its fairly enjoyable. There's one scene where a dude onstage playing guitar gets challenged by someone in the audience and ends up smashing his acoustic over the guy's head. In another instance a woman charges the stage and just starts punching the comedian because she apparently doesn't like what's being said. And there are tons of guest spots from all kinds of people in the entertainment industry who've had to deal with bullshit critics and moronic people in the crowd.

Check it out. Its been on Showtime a lot recently.

you just have bad tatste in movies. Helen Keller could have told you all the above movies were going to be terrible.

I read reviews, but don't decided what to see based on them. The one that sticks in my mind is Grindhouse. I loved it & everyone thought it was self-absorbed.

I've liked slither and cabin fever. I get the feeling these weren't really appreciated films.

Peace,

jared

Holy shit, seriously? I kinda hate to use the such cliched (by now) line of "there's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back", but... well.. there ya go :|

There are few movies in my viewing life that I've outright HATED as much as "Cabin Fever", I mean just on an epic fucking level. And this completely bizarre, meaningless WTF? cameo part that Eli Roth gave himself, oh my god... it's like dude, don't sully the memory of Alfred Hitchcock if that's how you're gonna do it. I know multiple directors these days like to follow this trend, giving themselves very small roles in their own films, most do publicly say it's their salute to Hitchcock (who is probably the most famous director ever having done it) but the way he included himself in Cabin Fever was just one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I was just kinda sitting there with my jaw hanging open saying to myself "What?"

*steps off hate mongering soap box* :haha:

I like Ebert, but he is not a horror guy.

I also agree with Harry 75% of the time.

Isn't Ebert infamous for loving SPEED 2 ? :haha:

Mind you, as a movie lover overall, I still do more or less have respect for him...

Speed 2 was better than 98% of the shit action movies out now (redline, F&F, fighting, torque) or then (Art of war, passenger 57, under siege 2, double team)
