he's on a one year probation, but other than that he's very much a free man

my personal theory is that he'll take this year to catch up with his parents/wife/daughter and then start writing texts and music again

I'm not too worried about him falling into recent metal trends, as he listens mostly to classical music

but I kind of want him to write some more lyrics for Darkthrone; I don't know why

Buffalohed, the fact that you seem to deem it necessary to act like a tough guy and look down on others leads me to believe you know nothing about the genre

I'm not trying to act like a tough guy, I just think it's sad that you refuse to discuss music even though, theoretically at least, you used to have really good taste. Who knows anymore because you make everything a big mystery. If you actually listen to black metal and want to talk about it that'd be great since me and echoes are the only ones here that talk about it at all.

And I know plenty about the genre, I just don't subscribe to its ideals.

Also the punk Darkthrone plays now is pretty much nothing like the punk they played on Transylvanian Hunger

I don't subscribe to a lot of the ideals it promotes either, so maybe we have more in common than we think

Darkthrone was always far from my favorite 2nd wave band. Immortal is much better. So is Emperor. So is Burzum. So is Ulver.

but it's kind of bitter-sweet for me, because that album "killed" Black Metal in the sense that Tolkien "killed" the fantasy novel or the Beatles "killed" pop music

not to say great bands and albums didn't come after that album, but I think that was the last album to really hold true to that set of ideals and feelings

Emperor and Ulver showed their true colours over time, I don't have much time or tolerance for them

Most people accuse Filosofem of creating depressive black metal like that's a terrible thing. I don't really give a shit, I like depressive black metal, without it we wouldn't have Hypothermia or Weakling or Xasthur or whatever else.

I only listen to one Emperor album and 2 Ulver albums so it's ok.

you know people seem to forget that Darkthrone weren't a Black Metal band in the beginning, so why should be it so shocking that they change styles again

although I would argue the point that crust punk actually has more in common with Black Metal than their Death Metal roots does, both musically and ideologically

that's the way to go
