I enjoy their music and all, but I never find myself going out of my way to listen to them. However, every time I listen to them with friends, I always wonder why I don't listen to them more. So, I'll put on some 311 and almost immediately feel like listening to something else. It's not that I don't like their music, I just never feel compelled to listen to it when I am listening to music alone.

Every style of music has its purpose. 311 is a band that makes feel-good, party music or stoner music, and they do it well. If you're looking to get really into something, find some deep meaning into the music your'e listening to, then 311 is not a great choice. But if you're hanging out and need something good playing in the background --- or on a road trip and want some good rock beats, 311 is a great choice.

The 311 in concert took a studio-centric turn, so I figured we'd move the discussion over here:

Yeah, I can't get behind that song at all. It's not very different from any other 311, but I think I simply grew out of this band. Aside from an instrumental album, I don't think I'll be picking up any new material from this band any time soon.

I don't blame you. Hell, this was just a throw away track from their greatest hits album from like 2004. I guess it's upbeat nature just hooked me. However, posting this video was the first time I have probably listened to it in 5 years or so.

On second listen, the song is easier to listen to when I have it playing in the browser tab underneath this one instead of watching the video. The video makes it very hard to take this song seriously.

Do you think that when it comes to mediocre and sophomoric bands from California suburbs in the mid-90s, answering where your thirteen year old self sat on some sort of taste spectrum that ranged from Sublime to Deftones would be an accurate personality assessment?
