Weird rumor from the 10c board:

http://forums.pearljam.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=102095

So, my company's annual sales rewards trip is in Hawaii this week. Top 100 sales reps go to an exclusive event in Lanai. Every year we do this and one night there is a party and we get musical guests, as mentioned in the earlier post. Eddie played last night at our company's party. This is 100% confirmed. Working on tracking down a photo. My colleague that was there is not as big of fan, but was texting me throughout. I could only make it so late into the evening though, due to the time difference, so I will get more today.

They played the quicksilver event I guess they don't mind doing corporate events as long as it's in Hawaii.

"I work for a major corporation and we have our super exclusive rewards trip in Lanai tonight. Friend of mine made it and said PJ is playing. Haven't found out if it's full band or just Ed, my guess would be just Ed. Will keep you posted"

"For the last several years (when i actually made it) we had counting crowes, the who last year, and elvis costello. im pretty shocked ed would do this..."

That's the most made up story I've ever heard. If you find any evidence, PM me. I'll unlock.

while I would like to see some evidence, I'm not so quick to call it fake. didnt he play a secret show last year in Hawaii as well, some benefit related to Laird Hamilton or something?

this is what I was thinking of. ("There it is...Samsonite...I was way off!)

11/30/06 - Waimea Falls, Oahu, HI
set: (Interstellar Overdrive)/Corduroy, Do The Evolution, World Wide Suicide, Severed Hand, Even Flow, Elderly Woman…, The Amerikan In Me, I Believe In Miracles
first encore: Can’t Keep, Soon Forget, Crazy Mary, Indifference
second encore: Better Man, Baba O’Riley, Rockin’ in the Free World
TFT Notes: Unannounced performance at the 2006 Opening Ceremony of the Big Wave Invitational. Kelly Slater joined on vocals and guitar for some songs in the first and second encores.

I could care less.

If I wanna go to a fucking party I'm gonna go to a fucking party. If someone wants to pay me, or not, for going to the party - regardless if fucking is involved or not - I'd do it. Whatever. You'd all do it.

This goes triple for artists. Give them a damn excuse to play with and for their friends. Seriously. Who doesn't want to do this? Who wouldn't? HE SINGS KARAOKE IN BARS. Let him play for his friends without being strung up by his eggs.

the guy just sent me an iPhone pic taken by his friend. seems legit. he said the kids on stage are the VP's kids.

"I haven't had a chance to talk to my buddy that was there. He did send me a picture of Eddie playing guitar with my VP's 2 children. And said it was covers of Bruce and Dylan. Probably a pretty standard Ed solo set. Afterwards Ed hung around and drank with folks around the pool and apparently had a really good time with everybody. Hard to believe Ed would do this, but damn am I jealous I wasn't there."

It's not whether Ed would or wouldn't do this kind of show. I don't think he would, but I really have no idea. It's that if you listed out all the identifying characteristics of an urban legend, this post would have them.

- I work for a company but can't tell you who.
- A friend told me this.
- A colleague texted me, but he couldn't tell if it was a one-man acoustic show or six-piece electric show.
- "This is 100% confirmed."
- I'll try to get a picture (never does).
- I'll try to get a setlist (never does).

I don't know if Eddie played a show for corporate big wigs, but I did hear from my sister's friend that he dropped acid while he was watching Olivia and stuck her in the oven thinking she was a turkey. I swear to God it's true!

here is the pic he sent me with the message below:

I'm not advocating on his behalf, I just choose to hear the story before calling bullshit. one reason I can see it happening is because he had a few days off.

You can believe what you want, but I'm not apologizing for being a skeptic. That's a weak story and a weak picture.

News flash!!! Eddie plays on the beach at campfires with his friends. Eddie goes to bars and plays. Eddie is a musician and carries a guitar!

ps Not to make any value judgements or anything, but this is discussion is amusing. Come on. This is normal people stuff. Those of you who play, don't YOU do this? What could possibly be more normal?

I'm assuming that the weirdness they were talking about sprung from the fact that it was a corporate event that Eddie was playing, something that hasn't happened in the past as far as I know.
