Anybody seen this? It's a BBC show in three parts that was made a few years back but was never picked up by American television. I watched the first two parts last night and found it very informative. It documents the rise of both fanatical Islam and the neo-conservative movement, noting that both ideologies used fear of an unknown/unconfirmed enemy to bolster their cause. I highly recommend it, it's on archive.org if you're interested.

Yeah, the jury is still out on 9-11 being confirmed or not confirmed.

Yeah, the jury is still out on 9-11 being confirmed or not confirmed.

It's also still out on whether Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. Oh wait, shit.

And the jury is still out on whether Saddam Hussien was a genocidal maniac. Oh wait, shit.

on a side note, since it was brought up i looked at the iraq war wiki and looked through the lead up section and found this gem

wikipedia wrote:
While there had been some earlier talk of action against Iraq, the Bush administration waited until September 2002 to call for action, with White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card saying, "From a marketing point of view, you don't introduce new products in August."

here's the source for it
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITIC ... ider.iraq/

So are you goofballs going to talk about the program that the thread is about or just a big ol' generic idiotic thread about Iraq?

Yes, you definitely have the moral high ground forwarding healthcare as a gauranteed human right while consigning millions that are ruled by those despots to absolute poverty, tyranny, no semblence of any human rights, and ultimately death.

Ya got me!

I can't find a good picture of the "Jump to Conclusions Mat" from Office Space, anyone?

How's that jumping to conclusions? We're talking about B-hed here. I thought it was a given that off-skinned people in other nations don't have the same rights as real humans in America.

You've totally lost me. Anyhow, amazing derailment job here.

Derailment? I don't think so. We're discussing the notion that neo-conservatism is founded upon unfounded/unconfirmed enemies. Aren't we still talking about that? Isn't a nation that is the enemy of human rights our enemy?

Gitmo doesn't need to be shut down. The solution is much simpler than rushing into hasty judgments that lead towards more violations of basic human rights. I don't know how many years I've said this, but all we need is clear and concise legislation that not only ensures that human rights are preserved, but that national security interests are preserved as well.

I have never encountered a single solitary person EVER that doesn't think that something like this can't be achieved. The same goes for the illegal wiretapping laws and the patriot act. Nobody can tell me why there isn't a plausible legislative solution that eliminates violations of our constitutional rights AND gets the job done to preserve security at the same time.

The troublesome thing is that NEITHER PARTY is willing to write this sort of legislation.

War is awesome...except personally I'd rather build houses for starving people in the third world. I can't go to war, I have "health problems."
