Sad days. I listened to WBCN all my life. They had Howard, and a great mix of music. HEAVY pearl jam, u2, white stripes in rotation. They played entire pearl jam shows from time to time and had several pearl jam weekends, a-z and such.
since i got sirius I have strayed from FM radio, and when i was in a different car for a while and listened they were going down hill for sure. toucher 7 rich were a copy of a copy of a copy of opie & Ant...and that isn't saying much.
Not that I listened to them much anymore, but a big part of my (and a lot of other Bostonians) youth just died.
very true

I hate listening to the radio. If I do, it's usually for news or something, not music. That being said, I'm kinda surprised by this. BCN is kind of a big deal around here. Hopefully, WAAF will be next.

I guess I'll be the bad guy.
I'm not going to miss it at all, it was just another lame mainstream station. Other than Howard Stern I never really listened to it much anyway. WAAF (who are now declaring victory despite STILL trailing in the ratings ) and WFNX were much better when I was growing up and was a regular radio listener. The fact that they even lasted this long is impressive, when they were airing Howard and Opie & Anthony for half the day I figured they were goners and that was 7 years ago.
Aside from having one less option while I'm desperately flipping around the dial trying to find something decent at work I probably wont even notice it's gone. And I'll gladly trade one rock station for finally having a viable sports radio alternative to the WEEIdiots.

We used to have WHFS, which at one point was actually a really good station. Towards the end of the 90s their playlists got shittier and shittier, until there wasn't much difference between them and the local construction worker music station, 98ROCK. Then overnight they turned into a spanish station called EL ZOL.

People who followed radio saw this coming. WBCN has been doing terrible in the ratings for years now, and CBS has been looking to get rid of a station and make another sports station. Rock radio has sucked for the last decade or so, but it's really sad to see such a historic institution go by the wayside.

I loved HFS until that sack-of-shit Johnny R(something) gave out the wrong fucking zip code for the 1995 Voters For Choice shows. I sent 300 post cards to the wrong address. I never listened to the station regularly after that. Except to info the HFStivals....

Johnny Riggs. He got busted for kiddie porn in the late 90s.

We got ya beat. Mark Parento, legendary WBCN jock, got busted having sex with a 14 year old boy in a hotel room I believe. The details might be wrong there, but basically the dude fucked a young teen boy.

TnR were part of the reason I never turned on WBCN anymore...they're like Opie and Anthony, except at least O&A were funny at first, but then their act got old

The comparison to O n' A is a little unwarranted, you could compare any DJ to an older DJ until you ultimately reach Howard Stern. In truth all DJ’s are pretty much the same: here’s an outrageous bit, here’s a crazy story, and here’s an interesting/nut job guest, it just depends what the listener finds the most entertaining based on their taste.
