Ok... So I'm new. I read, a LOT of threads... from tickets to the Fixer. And I respect ALL PJ FANS. But, as I wade through all the negativity, I just want to have a Positive Thread.
Please, i don't care if no one responds here. But if you do, you MUST be positive. If you want to bash or be negative, kindly do so in another thread, or make your own. I know a lot of fans want to be positive, and a lot of negativity has put a shadow on us... "You're warm with negativity, yes, comfort is an energy, BUT WHY LET THE SAD SONG PLAY?"
I Love all PJ albums, and I don't HATE a single PJ song. I just don't like some, but I don't hate a single one. Call me "sheep", but that's the truth. Also, my first concert will be in Rotterdam, and I CAN'T WAIT!!!
So, when I first listened to the Fixer, honestly, it made me smile. I knew it was different. and I knew... The Band was Happy... for the First time since Yield... I hear Positivity in Their music... in their lyrics... I tried to look back... Binaural was an album to complex... I liked Riot Act more, but it was also a Dark Record... And i Love S/T! Even if the music is somewhat positive, the lyrics were still... depressing? Sad...
Then, I hear Got Some and the Fixer... POSITIVITY!!! YES!!!
The band is hopeful. It's like, in Got Some, they say "Hey, we got some positivity here. We got hope!"
In the Fixer, they say "Let's fix this! Let's fight to fix the wrong things!"
Yeah!!!
A lot of things changed. You may see the quotes from the band. Mike said something about holding about anger for so long... Ed said its more easier now, it's not like rocket science anymore. Who knows, being family men, having children you love, having a fan base... enjoying your band mates... being "still relevant"... having the respect of your peers... doing things your own (e.g. Target)... Having someone new in the White house...
The Band is HAPPY... And you can feel it in their songs!!!
Please, once again... keep away from this thread if you're tempted to write sarcasm or negativity.

Thanks man... In all honesty, i love this song!
I was thinking of the "angry passionate Ed" in the Pinkpop days... and the "father loving Ed" in the Cornice dvd... and I am happy, that he is happy...
And as i read once, PJ has EARNED to write songs like these. If they want to have their glory back, I am there to support them! Hell yeah, i want the teenagers to sing "YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!" with me on the street.
For the record, I think they Have Balls when they released this song... I was expecting a Hard Rocking Angry Raw Tune, and they blew me away with this Hopeful well produced gem...
I CAN LITERALLY LISTEN TO IT WHOLE DAY... I can't say I can do that to my other favorite PJ songs...

I'm happy for you - but if there's one word that cannot be used to describe The Fixer, it is "balls".

The bitchin' has started- didn't take long!
The Fixer is a great tune. Maybe a good quality live version will turn the doubters...... I know there are plenty of Pearl Jam songs which I don't particularly like on the albums but when hearing them as live recordings my opinion has changed for the positive.

I think it does. I think the band took some risk when they chose the fixer as the single. If it was the perfect choice, maybe there isn't too much negativity in the boards.
Maybe the band was thinkings... "Our fans are waiting for another NAIS (artistic), Who You Are (weird), or WWS (rock angry)"... then they said... "Ok, let's release a new wavish, less than 3 minute song, with simple lyrics (if you can immediately hear what Ed was mumbling)"...
That's why I say it has balls. Because it was DIFFERENT.

I hate to break thread rules to point this out, but this hasn't exactly caught on like the 'negitave' threads.
_________________ Vedder’s sticking with the underdog, McCready’s classicist rock solo, Gossard, Ament, and Abbruzzese’s solid yet organic and rootsy rhythm section. It’s earnest, it’s got tension, and that nod to classic rock. It’s Pearl Jam.

I did not make this thread to compete with the "negative threads"... I purposedly opened this thread, so if someone, who is looking forward to read or even post something positive, regarding anything, from the fixer - backspacer - Pearl Jam - or your own experiences, you can put it here...
Because sometimes, people want to find positivity, yet cannot find one because of the negativity.
So, once again, if you have nothing positive to say... kindly stay away... Plently of threads to put your sarcasm or "incite"...
Again... Peace... and I'm keeping the positivity, although it's quite hard...

I don't think this is an excuse for a below par song (sorry to be negative). A lot of times, I see people using the "but they're happy!" argument to justify The Fixer. Repetiveness and simplistic, crappy lyrics shouldn't get a free pass just because the band are in a better place. Springsteen's Born To Run is probably one of the most joyous, happiest songs I've ever heard and it's a masterpiece.
I've got no problem with Pearl Jam writing 'happy' songs: they've done it very well many times before. I just don't think The Fixer is an example of that.
