Due to Felipe Massa's accident, Ferrari obviously need a stand in. Michael Schumacher's spokesman hasn't ruled it out.

With Hamilton back in the groove, this could be fucking epic.

Personally I don't think he'll do it, they say he's been keeping fit, but there's keeping fit in general and being fit enough to race in F1, plus he hurt his neck the other month in a motorcycle accident, if the necks sore, there's no way he'll be able to meet the demands placed on him in an F1 car, although there is 4 weeks to the next race.

It'll either be David Coulthard (don't laugh here, he still holds a super licence and is still a registered driver for this season, Red Bull just need to give him permission to race for Ferrari, that shouldn't be a problem seeing as Ferrari supply the engines for Torro Rosso) or Marc Gene one of their test drivers.

Good to finally see an F1 thread on here, I've always toyed with starting one but didn't think there'd be a great response for one.

The other name I've heard is Alonso. Apparently he's off to Ferrari next year anyway so it's down to whether Renault would let him go early. Although I don't see why they would.

Yeah, I've heard that mentioned as well, the only way that will happen is if Renault lose their appeal against the 1 race ban, Alonso will be desperate to race in his home country so could possibly buy his contract out with Renault. only time will tell.

I know the FIA will want to send a message out to the teams about taking safety seriously but can you see them upholding the ban? Meaning Alonso would miss a race in Spain, there would hardly be any crowds there. My brother and his mates went to Barcelona last season, once Alonso crashed out all the Spanish fans left instantly!

I think as we've seen recently, all the power in F1 is with the teams and drivers. Which is good, because the FIA, Mosley and Ecclestone are twats.

I'm a massive hypocrite. I used to hate him when he won everything, I was always a big Williams fan as a kid. But I'm very, very excited about this. It's gonna reignite the sport.

 I'm in pretty much the same boat, never been a fan of Ferrari or Schumacher, always appreciated his talent though, there's no questioning that.

I can't wait for him to race again now though, it'll give the sport a good kick up the arse.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next season, he's there until Massa is able to race again, if Massa can't race next season, will Schumacher stay for another season? he'll have the hunger back again, Alonso will be alongside him, that'll make for some cracking racing, two of the best drivers ever in the sport as team mates. Alonso is the best driver in F1 at the moment, he'll run away with it at Ferrari next year, as I can't see them being as bad again.

Yeah this seems a bit of a transition season with the big two struggling with their cars. Next season could be a huge fight between 4/5 teams. Just hope Button holds on because this year will be his only chance in my opinion.

amazed at this one. I guess he is coming to Ferrari's rescue!! Doubt he will do much race wise though. Look at Hamilton last year and this or Button even. There is very little that separates the drivers it is the cars that make all the difference.

Michael definitely didn't leave the Ferrari payroll, he's been employed as a consultant to Scuderia Ferrari since he retired, he also helped with testing the new car the other season when traction control was taken out of the cars because of his experience in driving cars without it.

I also don't think he would've returned if it was Kimi in this situation, Schumacher took Massa under his wing and has worked closely with him since retiring.

I read somewhere that in the first year after retiring he earned more money than he did in his last season racing due to more appearances for sponsors etc
