I was looking at some Red Hot Chili Peppers videos on youtube, and then found this vid that had this song called "American Judas" by Brendan Rice. It sounds EXACTLY like the second half of Parting Ways to me. Is it just me?

It wouldnt be the first time the Chilli Peppers had ripped off another song. Is this off that last album from 06 or so? The one with the Mary Jane's Last Dance rip-off?

Stuff like this isn't unusual and the fact that it happens so often and is so noticeable is fairly boring.
There are only so many chord progressions in popular music that appeal to listeners, and he's not doing anything other than playing I, V, IV. He didn't rip off Parting Ways. He's just playing 3 tried and true chords that sound relatively good against a pop melody.

cause pearl jam's stuff has never been eerily similar to another band's stuff... given to fly, life wasted, got some, these were all shockingly original, not showing the band's influences in the least.

It's one thing to have a song bear a resemblence to another song, like in given to fly, that's going to happen just because riffs are riffs and can sound like other ones, or be influenced by other ones. It's another thing when a song sounds almost exactly like another song, I remember when that song(Dani California) was out and big on the radio, stations were playing it accelerated speed, then slow speed, and then playing Mary Jane's Last Dance and it was a totally different thing than Given to Fly kind of sounding like Going to California.

not really different things at all. but led zeppelin did more than their share of copying as well.
oh, and Soon Forget. that's the most blatant, Ed even notes it in the liner notes.
and it's not like Mary Jane's is a deep piece of music. common poppy music is played by many bands.
Got Some... Err, Gut Feeling.

Same chords, but a completely different vibe.
