MF, we're normally on the same side. What went wrong?
It's got nothing to do with the music, which from the few listenable clips sounds pretty decent. It's just that the internet has collectively jizzed all over this thing without having even heard enough of it to make a sound judgement. That kind of frenzied hype always spells disappointment in the long run.

YEP.
you're setting yourselves up for dissapointment.
that 14 second clip is just that, a 14 second clip... it sounds pretty good, but nothing OMFG MINDBLOWING I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY LIKE THAT BEFORE. it sounds like a Queens/Zepp-ish riff.

Not really.
If you enjoy Queens/Zep and you have quite safely assumed that this band and their album will sound like Queens/Zep then you really don't have any problems. Their music doesn't have to be unlike anything I've ever heard in order to be full of awesomesauce.
But if you want to take the position of "Please, let us think of restraint and apprehension!" then go for it, guys. I prefer to ride the wave of hysteria, particularly as this project involves three of my favourite musicians and this year has been decidedly quiet on the good music front.

It's ok zeb. I'm just trying to protect myself from a letdown of Audioslave proportions.
NOTHING i repeat NOTHING will ever be as bad as Audioslave. i think the shitass name should have been a huge red flag for us.
Tinted Windows >>>>>>> Audioslave, and TW suck balls.
i'm sure this will be GOOD, maybe even GREAT, but not everything Homme has touched has turned to gold (and even less with Grohl, esp. considering i only really love the first 2 Foo's records).
i'd just prefer to not artificially build it up, just in case, and be pleasantly surprised.
i mean on paper i thought Probot was going to blow my MIND, and it wound up being just decent and having little replay value.

uh no. i'm already pretty confident that Backspacer won't even be the 3rd best album released the week it comes out (#1 is Why? and #2 will be Monsters of Folk, possibly #3 being the new Richard Hawley or the new Pains of Being Pure a Heart EP)

You're probably right. Listening to the 30 second clip of Supersonic on Amazon just now made me puke a little in my mouth.
