First off, I would like you all to start flaming me because my post count is not high on this board. That's what you all do around here anyways. That does not mean that i am not a fan of the band, just because I prefer to read the board rather than post. With all due respect to RM, because I think this website does a nice job of keeping up with the band and keeping us fans informed, I hate this message board. Everytime I read it, I get the impression that many of you here are very snobbish and think that you are the s*** because you have well over a thousand posts on this board. Many of those posts are accumulated I am sure by ripping on other fans and yelling at them to read the damn thread before asking questions. Sorry, but some of us don't have hours at a time to read several pages of threads to find hidden links and such. The reason why I am making this post is in hopes for some of you to lighten up and respect all fans, not just the elite ones on the board. After all, we are all brought together by a common love for the band and should treat each other fairly. If you want to pick on somebody, go post on a Nickelback or Creed message board. Just a thought.

welcome to the board :) There are lots of good people here. It's easy enough to work around the ones you don't like

Ha, ha. No, but I'll take it if you are willing to give it to me. But that was not the reason for my post. And reading through my original post, I did not intend to be overly negative. I do not really hate this board. If I did, I would not continue to read it everyday. But sometimes I get a little frustrated by reading posts by people thinking that they are better than others. That's all.

I agree and disagree. I have lurked around this board for years. Finally, I made an account. Since then I have posted sporadically and continued to lurk. However, I've been posting regularly for the last 4 months or so. I believe the board is made up by alot of funny, intelligent and kind people. Though I'm a newbie comparably on this board with a post count that only reaches 200, I have experienced the generosity that there is here in terms of being sent content by other users as well as even getting a ten club ticket to a show at face value from another member of the board.

I do however sympathise with a couple of things you said. There does appear to be a consensus that the more posts you've made here, the more of a fan of the band you are. And yes, some people don't have ages to read through lots of posts to see if their question/comment has been made. What doesn't help the cold reactions to new users is when someone's first post is a request for a PM of something. You need to give something to the board before you can start requesting favours. I feel that there have been alot of people who have signed up here in the past, done this and created a bad reputation. This means that there are probably a lot of genuinely nice people who have signed up and been mistaken for the aforementioned leachers, which is a shame.

A lot of of the people with enormous post counts are no longer especially interested in pearl jam and have such a high post count because they hang out in other forums

If this is in response to the gmail password it is worth keeping in mind that a poster set that up as a public service, and the password was common knowledge until someone was a jerk and changed it, locking people out. Since then people have been much less cavalier about giving it out, limiting it to people they feel that they know and can trust. It is a little exclusionary to be sure, but it isn't coming from a sense of elitism or entitlement

I totally agree. I can't believe nobody would send the Supersonic link to me last night. And I single out Iowaska_Experience because I know he had it and he just wouldn't send it. That's lame. and he even commented on my post count! that really matters to people here I guess.

well unlike him, a user named Spenno is a good man and has sent it my way. And I of course have just forwarded it to 11 users (including you pjamdan) who the higher-ups here on the Red Mosquito board are just too cool to deal with.

At times I find it difficult which posts should be taken seriously and which ones are simply trolling.

I am glad someone posted this, because I was feeling the same way. I asked for the password last night, didn't get it, but I won't beg for it. The song will be out soon enough, somewhere else. Regardless of the motivation for keeping this information in a tight circle it's not perceived as being careful, it looks like you are hoarding and then telling everyone who doesn't have it how good it is. Some I think actually love doing that. For those of you in the "inner circle" I offer this... Next time someone comes on here with something that you all don't have, think of how you treat that person in efforts to get them to post it. And think about how much you want to hear it, and how grateful you are when someone shares.

what is this about, the vinyl rip of Supersonic? you'll get to hear it soon. who cares if people are acting like a bunch of 5 year olds with it? I havent looked for it because I'm trying to avoid the new stuff (except what I hear in Chicago) until I have the whole album, but there is enough music out there that I wouldnt be sweating over a sone that I'll get to hear in 4 weeks anyways. go listen to I Got Shit or Tremor Christ, I guarantee you Supersonic wont compare.

you might think that people who have a large number of posts favor each other, but that is not necessarily because of the posts, but because many have been here for years and have established a relationship with each other.

and why is this so unusual or wrong? if you meet someone on the street, and they ask you for something, you are likely to sidestep them and continue on your way. however, if you run into someone who has given something to the community in the past, and they ask you for a favor, you are likely to oblige.

I myself am a PJ snob, and I have no problem admitting it. I do believe there are varying degrees of fans. I wont get into my reasons here, but I am more likely to favor someone who I think is a longtime fan and has devoted their time over many years to unearthing and preserving the band's history, rather than someone who posts that last night's show was the best show EVER and is asking for a recording today (not you, havent seen your other posts).

I wasn't saying that was unusual or wrong. I was saying that was the way it should be. I was complaining that people were requesting favours on their first post and saying that they should contribute something first. I think you misunderstood me.

And I agree, of course there are varying degrees of fans. I will also favour someone who is a long time fan and has dedicated more to them. What I'm getting at is, just because someone's only been a member her for a couple of days, it doesn't offer any insight into how long they've been a fan and what they've given the band.

How do you even find the time to use the bathroom when you're posting on a message board 30,000 times?

I will say we're a fiercely loyal board. It may not be nice, but frankly a person with less than 100 posts hasn't brought a lot to the Board. We've obviously not seen a lot of you until you wanted a link to something that you couldn't get over at the Pit. I understand that you might prefer that board, and that's fine, but you'll need to understand that everyone has friends on this board, and you may not be at the top of someone's priority list. Everyone on this board has a real life, friends, family, jobs, hobbies, etc., they may be too busy with other things to sit around and PM links to everyone that asks. The Pearl Jam fan community is a very open and sharing kind of community, but that doesn't mean that everyone who wanders in the door can have freebies immediately upon asking.

Not to mention that fact that you're not supposed to be asking for links to commercially available material in an open thread anyhow.

Hang around. Get into some debates. Post in another forum. Be part of our community in some non-bitching capacity. Even if you don't get a link to Supersonic, you'll be better off for the experience.
