haven't really given this a good listen yet... but as good as im sure it is, it just makes me want to listen to southern harmony. it's kinda half country record, half of the Band. I guess its not my thing...

Well I'm 4 tracks in, and sfar, so good. Definitely love the fact that this was recorded live in the barn; it gives the album an awesome rootsy, raw vibe. And A Train Still Makes a Lonely Sound may be the best song the Faces never wrote.

I Ain't Hiding sticks out like a sore thumb. I know these guys sound like the Stones, but that doesn't mean they have to adopt Mick's disco tendencies and falsetto vocals

I actually like that song now, in the context of the album. That's one rockin' chorus

I like the first disc, its growing on me. what is home coulda been left off. Rich is talented in his own righ, but it doesnt fit. I think overall this will end up being one of those albums thats not bad, but could be shortened a bit.

Warpaint was just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking good, hard to follow it up.
however, Im really enjoying this record and it seems to get more enjoyable with every listen. I agree about "what is home" thats the only track I dont like.

I think I Ain't Hiding fits so well on the album B/C it doesn't fit on the album, like most of the other tunes.
Interested in the flow of the vinyl. I think that the Until the Freeze songs will be alot better in the context of everything else. It's a whole new tracklist on record.

Allmusic...4.5/5
Revitalized by their 2008 reunion, the Black Crowes decided to take a genuine risk, recording a double-album's worth of new material in front of a live audience at Levon Helm's barn in upstate New York...and then release the second half, Until the Freeze, as a free download-only. To a certain extent, such formal experiments are where the Crowes can really stretch, as they're so devoted to rock & roll roots from Southern England to South Georgia, they can't add new wrinkles to old traditions. But that's not exactly right: they're willing to stretch until at least the late '70s, offering their spin on a Rolling Stones' disco on the album's first single, "I Ain't Hiding." As true as that may be, it's too snide and easy, and does a disservice to what the Crowes pull off with aplomb on this rather remarkable record, a record that has all the easy interplay of a road-tested band but none of the weariness. The Crowes play with muscle and grace, easing into the rustic ramble of "Appaloosa" or getting dirt underneath their fingernails on the stupendous opener "Good Morning Captain," a song that sets the keynote for the rest of the record both in its sturdy construction and enthusiastically ragged performance. More than anything, it's the kineticism that captivates, how the band deepens their already-strong songs with muscle and blood, sounding alive in a way that they never quite have in the studio. No longer young upstarts, they wear their years proudly on this terrific album, sounding like the veteran roadhounds they've always aspired to be.

I'd be even more surprised if they didn't almost kill each other within 2 months of entering the studio and somebody splits the band once again.

A couple other people have mentioned it but I Ain't Hiding is pretty great. Love some of the lyrics especially the whole first verse. The disco vibe of it was pretty shocking even after it was hinted at on here. It is a great disco rock track and does a nice job of throwing a little diversity into the record and showcasing their versatility. It doesn't fit with the rest of the record but as long as its good, who cares?
