I'm listening to some of the 95 tour boots and I love how it sounds on this tour, the intro especially... nice and slowed down. Why can't they still play it like this...

Yeah, the 96 Berlin soundboard show version is nice as well. I haven't heard any 95 versions, assume it is similar

Fairly similar... Berlin is a fantastic show.

I actually really like the faster version, not that the slower one isnt great too, Corduroy is a pretty hard song to f up, even that acoustic version from bridge school is incredible.

Bridge School version is probably my favorite.

The tempo that gets set is all up to Ed and how he starts it out on his guitar. They've played that song so many hundreds of times that he probably just doesn't have the patience to do it slower anymore. They had a pretty good tempo still in 2000 and even in 2003. Since then it's been pretty hurried.

My all-time fav is from the leaked vault show Constitution Hall 1995-01-14. One of the few (soundboard) performances that fully captures the intensity of Ed's vocal present on the studio recording. Followed up by one of the best versions ever of Not For You (always go back to this one when frustrated by 'happy' style in which it has been played in recent years 8) )

Check out the 1995-11-02 Salt Lake City version. A crazy 8-minute version with an amazing and unique McCready solo. The best one there is.

Corduroy is one of my top songs and I hate the "hurried" version. I wish they slowed it down a little bit. But that's not gonna happen I know.

On the 3/17/95 Triple J Australian broadcast, Eddie started the intro riff on his guitar on D before moving up to E. And the intro to Even Flow from this gig was also different. Not sure if they did this stuff at other shows during that tour, but it sounded cool.

The second show of the 2008 tour has the closest thing to a slowed down version that I've heard from them. I miss it too.

They did. And it was.

Love this version, pretty unique for Corduroy.

I hate that version. There was one way to fuck up that song and they managed to do it with that version.

What about the punk version of it that Eddie performed in Rome after the 1996 tour in that power trio? That was a harder version of the Bridge School take and it was badass. Only performed that way that one time.

Corduroy, I think, is my favourite Pearl Jam song.. not least because as has been said, they can't fuck it up by speeding it up. Sounds great at album pace, and kicks ass at live pace. Plus, I think this is one of the few old songs (the only song?) which Matt plays even better than Dave did.

Are you fucking serious? Corduroy is one of the songs that suffers the most from playing it faster live.
