we've got all the threads about different topics and the D word and the R word come up and it seems like no one in RM is ever a republican.

They are all my neighbors in Orange County.

I do not consider myself a Democrat, but I think a majority of my political views align with theirs.

So you're a democrat, then?
Point taken. I would say that I'm very much farther left than the majority of the liberals on this board, however. Even so, I still consider myself part of the democratic party while my personal ideology varies quite dramatically from it at times.
On the other hand, most of the "conservatives" on here claim no allegiance and seldom address the policies of their party. It's like all the conservatives are not republicans temporarily... but they still argue the exact points that republicans argue, etc.

Why not as a democrat?
Because the Republican candidates have such a big difference between them, especially on the local level. If I lived in another state, I might use the same rationale to force me to register as a Democrat.

i think it's funny that libertarians are criticized for working within the system by liberals while D's doing it is always ok with those same people. this isn't aimed at anyone on this board (as far as i know), more people i know irl. example: obama taking tons of money from various corporations. but a libertarian utilizing the student aid, govt. loans, public schools, even unemployment, that exist is criticized. but they're paying for those systems same as anybody else, and even if the person thinks they should not exist, the fact is, they do.

That pisses me off. I have a friend who called me a hypocrite because I said I would claim unemployment benefits if I lost my job. I argued that if I don't take the benefits, there wouldn't be an equal playing field. I can't opt out of paying for the benefits.
