I can't figure out the structure of Examiner.com. It says Charlotte, but it clearly covers other regions. I don't get this website at all.

Regardless, this Mel Duncan, gentleman, has now gotten into the Pearl Jam business.

The best Pearl Jam show ever? part one

I suppose this is inevitable. Pearl Jam is the greatest working live band. Because of this, they are the greatest band. In concert they prove their weaker tracks are overlooked works of art, poorly executed on record. They are brilliant.

I am very happy for them. It's about time they got all this attention.

ps I really am doing the wrong fuckin g thing. Do you think someone would accept my application? Submit writing samples: I lost them. Would you like to read about my laundry? Oh not really? uh,...

Thanks, B.

btw, I think the way Examiner works is it figures (by your isp) the closest "examiner city" to you, so no matter from where you read the site, it looks "local."

Oh hey, because there seems to have been some confusion, right now we're only voting for the best show of 1991. Voting will go til Tuesday at noon. After that, I'll nominate three shows from '92 (though I'm certainly open to suggestion if you have a show from 92 and so on that you believe is worthy), then '93, etc. We'll do about two shows a week until we get to 2008.

Then I'll bracket the winners of each year against each other until we find the best PJ show of all time.

Good pointless fun indeed

The problem with these types of contests, is that most people choose the ones they've been to, or the ones near. So, the great concerts in Japan are less likely to win. Or even the European ones on this forum.

groetjes,
Mirella :)

given what happened here friday, this is a curious statement:

Can an album almost leak? That's the way it felt Friday night, that it would leak, but it just quite didn't make it.

Since my first PJ show wasn't until 98, I can assure there's no bias from me this early on. But even then, of the nine PJ shows I've been to, I would probably only consider nominating one for the year in which it took place.

As far as overseas shows go, they certainly won't be overlooked by me - I think some of their best sets/crowds/shows have taken place off U.S. soil.

That said, if there's any shows you feel worthy off nominating, let me know.

To be honest, I'm not really able to choose. Of all the concerts I've been to, I could nominate many, and then there are tons more I only know from the stories and the bootlegs. I also found out it's pretty personal. Concerts I loved, like for instance Düsseldorf, are not on the favorite lists of some other people.

groetjes,
Mirella :)

It looks like 8.23.91 at the Mural Ampitheater in Seattle took in the most votes and is now "The Best Pearl Jam show of 1991" - at least according to this non-scientific contest.

Thanks to Kathy from Two Feet Thick for suggesting it, and to everyone else for voting.

Full stats for '91, plus the three nominations for best show of '92 will be up this evening.

ps, Mirella, I think you'll be quite pleased with the nominations for best show of '92

hey all,

Thanks once again for the votes. 8/23/91 won out against the other shows as best of 1991.

Now we're moving on to 1992. Check here for all the details about '91 and view/listen/read the nominees for 1992.

Thanks!

This will be great when it's over since it'll give me some boots to go back and listen to. I don't know their shows that well before the 03 tour.

The early shows - either from people being burnt out on them or from few people remembering, are doing okay in votes, but I suspect the action will pick up quite a bit when we start getting into the late 90's shows and into the 00's.

I'm seriously looking for suggestions for what to nominate as we go on. For example, Soldier Field seems like a shoe-in to get nominated when we get to '95, but what about '98? I think it's conventional wisdom that 9/11/98 at MSG when "Breath" came back into the fold is an automatic, but is it? Other than "Breath" and the whole sign campaign, is that enough to bump off another potentially awesome show?

Please consider 9/16/98. Far superior to 9/11/98.

Yeah, 9/16 is a monster of a show. I nominate three shows for each year then have the readers vote, so I'm sure 9/16 will be in the three, but should 9/11/98 be an automatic because of "Breath"? Personally, I don't think so. The encores are good but overall, it's meh-ish

There's other examples in other years too, but that's a big one.

As good as 9/11/98 is, it's not top 3 for that year. If I had to pick three it would be 3/5/98, 9/16/98, and 9/19/98.

Hmmm, those are all fine shows. And Binaural's your favorite PJ album too? :luv:

You or anyone else have any suggestions for 1993?
