Here's something that I've been thinking about a lot as I see more and more examples of it. I have tended to avoid social networking sites where the whole focus is made about you. I don't do Facebook, I don't tweet, etc. Part of it is simply because I don't have much constructive things to say, but another part is that I'm a bit fearful (perhaps irrationally) that anything that I say on the fly could be used against me.
What compelled me to start this thread is it's just amazing how some notable people have just spilled their guts and said stupid things that could backfire on them, and I'm sure non-notable people do the same. The latest example I read is regarding Courtney Love suing the makers of Guitar Hero for how they portrayed Kurt:
Well, the article cited Courtney's Twitter account, and all I can say is...wow. I can't say I'm surprised at the content, but I felt like I just lost an IQ point reading it, and it just makes we want to take her even less seriously.
I've seen some other examples recently as well, such as the whole dust-up between Shawne Merriman and Tila Tequila, that just make me shake my head. I guess the whole point of this rant was to point out how easily people take this dissemination of information for granted. If I was a lawyer, I'd probably be doing the face palm dozens of times a day over this kind of thing.
