I'm curious if anyone else has cringed listening to Brendan O'Brien's contributions to some of the songs. There has been more than one (well, three major ones at this point) that truly made me cringe. There's a lot of stuff he's added that I can't stand, but some others that I think are working in the songs. I'd call his contributions a pretty mixed bag.

I think the record sounds great so on the whole I applaud him
There are 5 'compliaints' I have thus far, but they're all fairly minor and I don't know how many can be laid at BoB's feet
I don't like the low uh huhs in the fixer
I don't like the little growl thing after the first line in Got Some
I don't think the bridge in supersonic fits (good bridge though)
Speed of Sound is too busy
I think the chorus in Just Breathe is a little over the top

The only song that sounds a little busy or complicated with different parts is Speed of Sound. I really don't have a problem with the other songs. For the most part Brenden has been proven to be a great choice for the band.

there are a lot of goofy little 80s sounds here and there, but i dont know if Brendan is responsible for them (i mean other than playing them). i like em, but you definitely have to be in the right headspace. this album definitely sounds like they are just having fun.

What is making me cringe is the lack of low end in Ed's voice, that fundamental that you could feel, his voice is quite mid-pitched now.

yeah, i was waiting for that "Strangest Tribe" esque deepness on one of the quieter songs, and it never came. i was only thinking about it because that song came on my mp3 player last night and floored me.

What i hear is an artificially boosted mid frequency range. It sounds as if he was recorded trough 20$ microphones on some songs. It could be because of the quality of the rip though.

i think an amendment to the US constitution is in order to make sure Pearl Jam never works without Brendan O'Brien again. I dont know what it is, but He's absolutely essential.
