...repeated on every beat of the last two choruses? Is it even a cymbal?

It's not a splash cymbal, and it's not a china cymbal. Is it a hybrid... a china splash? It's quite low in the mix, but it's there.

I really like it, it's one of the things which has helped this one grow for me.

Really? Possibly.. sounds smaller to me, it's not got that abrasive china sound that Dave A. was a whore for.. It's, I don't know, gentler? Well, whatever it is, it's awesome.

thats my guess. i used to cut up an old ride and invert it, sounds similar to that.
