Ok so we've only had a few days (less than 24 hours for myself) but we like jumping to conclusions here so what songs do you reckon will consistently make it in to your ever changing top 25, and which could you see creeping up there?
I've listened through 5/6 times and am quite confident Amongst The Waves will make it. It's a great song to start off with, but that bridge/solo kicking in at 2.35 is face melting, and the final chorus is delivered perfectly, with Eddie sounding fantastic. I could see Got Some and Unthought Known creeping up too. 'Gems and Rhinestones' is a hair raiser.
What do you think? Please structure your responses neatly below this post.

This is way too early. It actually took me years to realize where some of their catalogue ranked for me. Only time will tell, but I will say this, FON, and ATW are 2 songs that are growing on me at an incredible rate.

It's way too early for me to start comparing Backspacer songs to the rest of PJ's catalog, but I could see Got Some, Unthought Known, and the End all having a chance of climbing into my top 20 and top 25's.

Well... As someone put it in another thread: The album was released minus 7 days ago...
It's obviously too early for this, but I expect at least Amongst The Waves to be up there, even when the "new-songs-excitement" has settled. I love Unthought Known right now, but I expect it to fall a little in a while because, really, the melody line is pretty repetitive... I still love Guranteed, which is maybe even more repetitive, though, so maybe UK will keep it's position for a while. You never know! The End and Force of Nature are good candidates too...
Ed is singing the Backspacer songs with a lot of passion, which is a quality I really appreciate,so maybe (I hope so) they all will age with style!
It'll be fun to bump this thread in six or seven months!

Just Breathe, ATW, Unthought Known, Force of Nature, and The End could have a shot.
These are flawlessly crafted to my ears, but how long will that last?

The songs really need to develop a live identity too before we start ranking them and such. We've only really heard 3 or 4 of them live so far, and alot of times I really fall in love with a song off a bootleg that I didnt give much time off the album previously. Green Disease and Present Tense are perfect examples of that. I knew them but they didnt really do it for me, then all of a sudden one day I hear a live version of the song and a lightbulb goes off and I'm like I love this song. That could easily happen with one of these new songs, one of the ones I havent really given a chance yet as I listen Got Some and Unthought Known over and over again.

I tend to like all the songs from Binaural,Riot Act and S/T better live than on record. And the opposite for a lot of songs on the rest of the albums. I guess it's got something (everything) to do with Brendan O'Brien vs. Adam Kasper. I HOPE to get even more excited for the Backspacer songs when I hear them live, but I'm not counting on it.
Given To Fly doesn't give me anything live. Never the less it's my favourite PJ song ever.

In a year, id much rather have this thread brought up with me saying NONE. than see where I proclaim "MAN JOHNNY GUITAR IS BETTER THAN IMMORTALITY! OMG"
So ill say its an okay album. But i dont see it being much better than S/T or Riot Act.

Yeah it depends on the song. I didnt mean every song off Backspacer would be like this, just maybe it could happen with one or two. There's plenty of songs from PJ where I think the live versions never lived up to the studio versions. Jeremy is one, I Got Shit maybe the most, Nothingman, In My Tree to name a few.
