For all blues fans to share their favourite tracks, discuss their favourite artists and help each other discover new blues music. Also just to share your love for the daddy of 20th century music.

It's not limited to the old greats, there's just as much room for The Black Keys as there is for Robert Johnson. From the roots, through depression era America, the birth of rock, the British invasion and current garage blues rockers.

I'll start with a few of my favourites, starting with some sick picking and heart wrenching vocals from John Lee Hooker....

For any blues lover I suggest Kenny Wayne Shepherd's - 10 Days Out. It's Kenny going round on a 10 day bus tour in the south, recording duets with a bunch of pretty obscure artists. It's amazing. There's an accompanying dvd with some pretty powerful stories.

Recently Keb 'Mo has really impressed. Very engaging entertainer.

Yeah Keb 'Mo is smooth. Might check out that DVD, just gave a quick look at some Shepherd's stuff, he's got a very SRV tone.

He's not the most original artist in the world. His style is often very derivative of SRV. But if you're going to rip off a blues player, SRV is a pretty good place to start.

I suggest you check out the 10 days out site. Pretty cool stff there. http://www.tendaysout.net/

you want some great "new" blues ? there is Eli Cook, 21 year old white kids from Virginia who has opened for BB King a few times now and been in guitar player magazine, he has the voice of a 80 year old black man and all music guide called him something like the bluesman of his generation or something like that... worth checking out... he's my cousin too so i like helping promote him when i can!

http://www.elicook.com i like his acoustic stuff more but some of the electric is ok too

Recently got a Buddy Guy CD for my dad, he still doesn't believe me that Jonny Lang is white and was a teenager when he appeared with Buddy.

The same song, the original and more recent; Skip James' "I'm So Glad"...

Beck, is IMO a pretty great bluesman, although he touches on it relatively rarely. There's alot of other great examples of blues covers and originals on YouTube from him.

Also, here's one by one of my favorites, Mississippi John Hurt, playing one of my favorite songs...

Blues songs are dirty sluts that sleep around.

They aren't really known for the blues and she sure isn't known to sound like this and this is one of the rare songs that she has co-written.

She could have been a great blues singer.

Here's a more recent live version for comparison
