Those photos are great.

1st picture: Ed, with a goatee, looking METAL AS FUCK

2nd picture: Ed and the guys laughing their heads off at their middle-aged attempts to look METAL AS FUCK.

I bought this for the article, and it was very nicely written, definitely. It picks up after the writer's got over all the 'grunge'/ Nirvana/ Ticketmaster stuff at the beginning. The passage about Roskilde is actually very moving.

Will do. Didja read it? really revealing. Stone saying he didn't appreciate ed's talents up until very recently. Controversial.

I may be wrong, but if I remember correctly, I don't think Stone said 'I've only just realised Ed is a talented guy.' He's been in a band with the guy for nearly twenty years, of course he does. Seems to me he was talking about having seen new skills this time: Ed's ability to 'direct' the band, help arrange songs, and 'lead' in conjunction with Brendan O'Brien. I'm not surprised that Ed's only just shown these skills during this album, as this album's creation went through a different process (as far as I can tell) than what's come before. These skills are distinct from the skills of musician and singer, which Stone has obviously recognised in Ed for almost twenty years now.

Ah.. well OK. All I'm saying is, there are a thousand ways to interpret that.

I argued the same when people kicked off about Ed's line 'The fans will just have to trust us.' People were like all up in arms about that: we don't have to trust fuckin' nobody bitch!

Interesting thought, as well with that responsibility thread, I do trust them. I didn't at all after avocado and the subsequent tour, bad album, everything wrong with it, a tour where they seemed like they just seemed like they wanted to be offstage and done with it as quickly as possible. After the 5 european shows this summer and this new one? I found my belief in them again and it's great.

Yup, like when Stone said he wasn't satisfied with their last 5 albums he actually meant 2 according to some people's interpretations.

That's my point, really. They do have my trust. I wasn't a fan of Avocado but one album is just.. one album. I've loved everything else.

Incidentally, my interpretation of 'the fans will have to trust us':

'If they've got an issue, the fans will have to get over it. We do what we want.. you don't have to like it.'

And I think Ed's perfectly within his rights to say that.

It's a great read..other than the usual explaining the history bit. Second only to the SPIN piece in this Backspacer junket anyways.

Harmless-agree with him I do...
