the production on that song is the real tragedy

Thank goodness for the acoustic version on Tracks.

I dunno...the live version on 1975-85 really sold me on the idea that the way it was arranged for the band could be powerful and driving. By the end of that one, the emotion of the song feels much more raw and present than on the acoustic version. And I don't think a sad song has to be quiet or mopey just because it's sad, either.

It and RITFW always reminded me of each other in so many folks who never pay attention to the lyrics see them as this great patriotic song.

i guess they are patriotic in a way, but generally not the way the masses seem to think.

I always connected Born more to Jeremy, in that both songs have very little inborn emotional pull in the music matched with very emotional lyrics, and both depend more on the performance to sell it. The best, most punching versions of both songs are great. The weakest performances can leave you wondering why you even like the song.

Can i make a new rule that dkfan cant claim "wanted to make a joke similar" until he actually starts trying to bring lulz again?

holy fuckin shit, i was thinking about that today!!

Really scary coincidence. I was thinking about songs whose arrangement and energy are kinda misleading in relation to the lyrics. I thought of Born in the USA, Rockin in the free world and Alive.

I don't mean the arrangement of the song. I mean the production. It is kinda thin and high, but I guess it is very of its time so there's that to contend with.
