Anyone see this? I saw it yesterday, hoping to be scared shitless, because that's what everyone I talked to said would happen. I was quite underwhelmed.
I would have liked the chance to direct the last 15 minutes of this movie.

when she's curled up in bed and tells him she doesn't want to leave anymore...creepy
what i couldn't get on board with though, is that actually witnessing even one of the less extreme occurances, would completely fuck you to the core...there wouldn't be any, "we're gonna tough this out" happening...it would completely fuck your brain, and all sense of reality....

saw it tonight...thought it was great
i had read that Steven Spielberg had seen the movie and suggested a new ending, which was the one they ultimately ended up using...wonder what the original ending would have been?
Mercury - what would you have done differently - I'm very curious.
I wasn't a huge fan of the ending - her coming back up, throwing him at the camera, and sniffing him like a rabid dog. For me, it would have been much more effective if after she was screaming downstairs, once he runs down there, there's like forty five seconds of silence and then the camera goes out. It would have made it so much more mysterious and not so gimmicky.
It wasn't bad, not just as frightening as it was hyped up to be. The parts Bacchanal mentioned are the ones I thought were the creepiest, as well.

I loved it.
Certainly, it had its down moments and flaws that could have been improved. But on the other hand, I can't say that I've seen more than a handful of movies this entire year that were better.
It's kind of sad that these people with no money can make a movie so vastly superior to what Hollywood makes for millions. The way this movie works would itself be very tiresome if everyone tried to emulate it, but nonetheless there's a lot to be learned here about effective tension and scary moments.

I just think they should have taken the intensity up several notches.
Some of the more genuinely creepy moments, as mentioned by others, are her smiling that creepy smile and refusing to leave. But then what? He just goes along with it. And at a certain point I think Micah should have become terrified and really concerned for her well being and his own. As it stands, he's a character I wanted to die. Demonic spirits have to represent and this guy did nothing but piss in the "spirit" or whatever's face for the entire running time of the film. So I think I would have done more with the foot prints, which is a moment I really liked, and thrown a few more red herrings in there a la the burnt photo of Katie. Why not have another really old item from her past show up on the bed or something? Perhaps a dress from when she was little. Something that further pushed the idea that the spirit was connected to her, not the house, and always had been. For the ending itself I would have had them flee to say, a hotel room. It still stays within the budget of the film but shows that hey, it isn't all about the place, this thing is after her. And definitely get away from the cheap jump scare ending. They had showed so much restraint that I think to have had the death of either one or both main characters in a quick, but brutal fashion would have just sent the audience out of the theater reeling.

HATED it. Least. Scary. Movie. Ever.
Seriously. It was more of a dark comedy. . . Brad and I laughed more than anything! I thought maybe it was my own ACTUAL experiences that left me underwhelmed. . . but my boyfriend was pretty underwhelmed as well.
We did really like the couple, though. They both had similar personalities to me and my boyfriend (he's a sarcastic ass too, and her constant puttering with beads, the knitting, etc), so it got us really into the movie and then really we just ended up disappointed.
I saw a LOT of potential here, but nothing seemed to follow through.
When he found the similiar case online about the other woman. They should have found a 'connection' of some sort, instead of, "Oh hey, here's another girl who had your problem but has absolutely no connection to you or us whatsover."
I did enjoy the psychic pointing out that such 'entities' thrive on negative energy, and then the corrilation of activity getting worse as the girl turned from a bright, bubbily, sweet happy woman to grumpy and angry. However, I think that it was done a bit TOO subtle, and made the characters look powerless, weak and stupid.
All of that 'online research' he did, and didn't come across one site that tells them, "Hey, by the way - this is YOUR reality. You're stronger than any 'deamon', 'ghost', blah bling blah, just throught the fucking thing out of your house and move the fuck on." Seriously??

Could someone please post, in spoiler of course, exactly how the theatrical version of the film ends? I watched the original cut of the film tonight and thought that the ending was horrendous. The rest of the movie I thought was quite good though and I'm just interested to hear how much the 2 vary. The original cut ends..
with Katie waking up in the middle of the night again, she stands in place for a little while then exits the room to head downstairs. A little time passes and Micah is awoken by horrifying screams to which he jumps out of bed and runs downstairs. They never show exactly what takes place but we're led to believe that Katie stabs Micah and returns to the bedroom in the middle of the night with a knife and sits rocking back and forth on the floor for hours on end. The day passes and she continues to rock as if in a catatonic state. Someone comes over to the house many hours later and see's Micah so the cops are called. The cops arrive at the house to Katie still rocking away and when she awakes from her sleep and approaches the officers with a knife in hand they open fire, killing her and ending the film.

We hear sounds of a struggle and Micah and Katie both screaming. Then a thud. Sounds of heavy footsteps in the hallway . . . then Micah's body is flung from the hallway and slams into the camera. Katie stands in the doorway covered in blood. She crouches down over Micah's corpse and sniffs at it a bit. She looks directly into the camera, and with a cheap-scare demon face, leaps at it. Screen goes black. Titles: "Micah's body was found a day or so later. Katie is still at large." The end.

Thanks for posting this.... after doing a little bit more investigating on my own I guess they've shot 3 endings to this movie thus far. The original, which I posted, the theatrical, which JH posted and there's another ending that sounds much better than both....
Katie awakens, walks downstairs and Micah is awoken by Katie screaming. There's rumblings heard, I guess Katie stabs Micah and then loud footsteps are heard coming down the hallway. This all sounds the same for the 3 endings. In this ending though Katie returns to the bedroom covered in blood, knife in hand, and proceeds to walk over to the camera. I guess she walks straight over to the camera so that it's focused on her mid section, her face can't be seen, and she slits her own throat dropping to the floor, roll credits.

I'd like to see that third ending. I've heard they shot multiple endings, but that's the first description I've read other than the bootleg and theatrical cuts. I'm sure the dvd will have all of them, plus "newly discovered bonus footage too shocking for theaters!!!"
