I am trying to go in without much planning and just see what comes out. But of course that's not working and I've got some ideas brewing, but I'm really, really trying to repress them for now...talking about them will not help, so I'll stay mum

how many pages could you write in a month if you really tried? a whole 300pg novel? sounds very ..... intensive
http://www.nanowrimo.org says: The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
I've considered this for a few years now, but the fact that I've decided to actually write a novel a few months ago, I may actually do it this year.
They also state: Those who upload 50,000 words they copied from Wikipedia.org just to see their name on the Winner's page are pitiful indeed, and likely need more help than a downloadable winner's certificate can provide them.

Have either of you been published before?
I've never been published, and I've never submitted anything I've written for consideration. I don't expect anything I produce in September to be worthy of publication, but hopefully it lights a fire under my ass.

I've written a novel, but have been very, very lazy about submitting it. I'd consider trying to write my second in a month, only because I think it'll have a slightly less complex story.
That said, I've only got less than half a month for any research...

I did this a few years back. Wrote a lot (30k+ words), but I didn't feel it was going anywhere. I was too often writing to write rather than moving any kind of story along. Still, it was fun.
Two nights ago, right before I went to bed, I finally got an excellent idea on what to write for this. Then, when I woke up, I forgot.
Damn
Notebook by the bed.
I've never ever done that. I have probably lost between 15 and 20 really good paper and story ideas that way.
Neither did I, until I was completely frustrated being in your predicament... forgetting what I thought were good ideas. At first I tried to convince myself that if it were worth remembering, I'd have remembered it, but that's silly. Everything I read said keep a notebook to jot stuff down, but that seemed too 'academic' for me and my brain is too chaotic to write anything coherent at first. But I do keep a notebook to write down 'trigger words' which will help me remember the general gist of last night's idea.

I reject that. I've said this about myself before, but in fact I bet most of those ideas sound better than they are because you're half asleep and warm under the covers.

I can definitely see this. I once thought I had discovered the meaning of life listening to Aenima just before taking a nap, but that was probably just the almost-dreams talking.
