Can this man do any wrong?? Really?? Just finished the Sandman series, and am part-way through American Gods. How does he fit all that brain into what looks like a comparatively small head?? He just goes from strength to strength...Can I get a hallelujah, brothers and sisters?
I want to like his stuff; I usually love the kind of book he writes. His stories are obviously inspired and have lots of good stuff in them. I just can't get into his writing style, for a reason I can't put into words. It's a bit like my attitude to JK. Rowling. I'd love it, if it didn't, well... bore me. Again, I'm talking about the quality of the writing more than the stories themselves. He's obviously a very talented storyteller.

I felt that way while reading "Neverwhere." But most of his stuff has really grabbed me. Though, honestly, I really prefer his stories geared more toward children. "Coraline" is one of the best, most uncomfortable (in a good way!) and terrifying books I can remember reading.
Still haven't tackled "American Gods" yet. But I own it. So... I'll get to it soon enough.
Loved the shit out of the one he did with Pratchett. Have read most of the Sandman stuff. Picked up about three or four of his children's books for my son.
(I just popped my 'schtick post' cherry, I'm a real growed up poster now!)
I think Gaiman has a lovely habit of marrying lyrical prose with some pretty dark humour. And I like the darkness in all of his work, especially the 'kids' books, it's rare to find an author that can find the balance that allows kids and adults to enjoy the same book...
