i have about three favourites from the s/t album, wws, come back, and severed hand. parachutes is also a great f'ing song. just curious how people would rank last albums best songs compared to backspacers.

i'm pretty sure that if we ranked every PJ song from best to worst, our lists would be almost completely reversed.
anyway, every sane person knows Severed Hand is the best song they've made since Yield, so thats number one. Life Wasted and Parachutes would be in there as well.

Comatose is clearly my favorite song on either record
Life Wasted and WWS are up there with my favorites on Backspacer. More depth on backspacer though

I gotta be careful until I have tenure. Then I'm gonna lay into Yield

Outside of Marker and Army Reserve, there's not much on s/t that I really cared for after a few months of listening. Parachutes would be great with different production, but that recording is just such a great argument for how important the people behind the boards are to the end product.
Backspacer is aging decently so far. But it's real early.

It's weird to rank them against eachother because they are such vastly different albums. At this point I'm still enamored with Backspacer, but if I made a top-5 it would look like this...
Unthought Known Severed Hand Just Breathe Got Some Comatose
p.s. If I tried to include Binaural or Riot Act the only songs that could compete in that list would be Grievance or Insignificance.

I'd put Severed Hand, Marker in the Sand, and Army Reserve ahead of my favorites from the new album - ATW, FoN, and Johnny Guitar, though not by too much.

This is a good topic. I am a fan of live Pearl Jam to the point where some songs I like better live than studio. Taking that into consideration, I think a live version of Comatose would only be behind Unthought Known and Got Some.
