So I was browsing the bookshops a couple of weeks ago and found the new one by Nick Hornby, and immediately snatched at it.
Looking at the dust jacket of the hardback, the story is, well...
HEY NICK, GET OUT OF MY HEAD ALREADY!
A man who obsesses about a musician a little too much, making trips to see sites historically relevant to the guy, spends wayyyyyyy too much time on the internets talking about this stuff, disregarding relationships and letting them fall by the wayside cos of this juvenile obsession...
I've only really just started reading, but this is brilliant material. If there was ever any doubt about this guy, and there shouldn't be what with High Fidelity and Fever Pitch, this shows Nick Hornby really is the best writer on what it is to be a fan, gleaning from the first 30 pages.

I got this book about a week back but haven't started it yet. Good to hear that it's an interesting read. I've loved everything else he's put out. About a Boy is my favorite.

I feel the same way. Hornby has a special place on my book shelf, but enough is enough.
hornby's writing is more of a schtick at this point than anything else. i started yawning just reading a summary of the plot of the new book. i liked high fidelity, and thought a long way down was ok, but for the most part he's just riffing on the same old shit.
I agree with what you guys are saying, but the word is that Hornby gets back on track with this one. A Long Way Down and Slam were misfires (at least I thought so) but the buzz on Juliet, Naked is that he's back on track. I'll read at some point; my book backlog is quite the stack.
