teaser for the remake is up on yahoo. looks pretty decent, but the again it could all be cgi effects and suck otherwise, but i'll watch it anyways when it comes out.
there is just something about the cheesey-ness of the original that may prevent me from seeing this. i mean i know it was the 80s and the FX were great at the time, but looking at the original now i mean, its heartwarming. this may ruin it for me

There's something about the love, care, and character that Harryhausen poured into his SFX that makes them incredibly endearing and effective. His SFX are always the stars of the show, but they're always more than just SFX.
I'm not one of those guys that chooses practical FX over digital or vice versa, but for me it's all about making them truly special. These days so many FX are just churned out with an assembly line mentality.

I was watching the original the other night...had no idea they were doing a remake but while I'm generally opposed to remakes, this is one that I can get behind. That trailer looked awesome.

Come on Peeps, you'll see every flimsy product that Marvel Entertainment shoves out there, but you won't see a Greek Mythology action-fest from the director of The Incredible Hulk?

unless i get dragged there by my friend who loves mythology, but i havent talked to her about this one yet.
i am very protective of my childhood memories and dont like to see them re-imaged. theres a small list of movies that they should never remake
clash of the titans weird science breakfast club beetlejuice red dawn gods must be crazy scanners firestarter
all the other movies out there, have at it
and just to note, i never ever ever see a movie just because an actor or actress is in it, or if its been directed by so and so. it has to pull me in with the story, not cause of whos who

Just saw it. If this is the direction "big" movies are going, I'm going to shoot myself. Where do I begin? I would like to begin by saying that although the effects of the original were cheesy, I liked the story and the movie.
This movie was so cliche it's not even funny. Shitty one-liners that were supposed to be funny, two goofy characters (that weren't in the original), and even the 3D was cliche. The only thing it was good for was the occasional "spear coming at you" visual.
The story only loosely follows the original plot, they add some characters, took some out, and limited the role of others. There was no set up at all, just "here is Perseus, son of Zeus, now go fight the gods for the humans". It was only 1 hour and 40 minutes, so I guess that is to be expected.
Like I said above, the 3D was worthless, and they showed previews for three other 3D movies. I guess this will be the norm? I had no choice as the theaters in my town were only offering it in 3D. The only cool effect didn't have anything to do with the 3D. It was the Medusa scene and they made her very cool/badass. I thought the quick action/fight scenes were too blurry.
