This just popped into my head so it may or may not make sense, but fuck it...

Image

I'm quite sure this can be applied to other things, and feel free to make those connections because my faculties are shot right now, but I was thinking about this while checking out the Tiger Woods story. Okay, so he goes to the hospital... has no real regard for price, obviously, so in his mind while he's there, he's in his bed, then he's leaving his room and never once does he wonder or worry about co-pays or medical fees or post-incident visits and the like. This very real thing, this kind of specter that looms over all normal people in various degrees is just completely absent for this guy. That's a huge chunk of grounded reality just sliced out of his thought process completely.

I guess I never really put it in that perspective before. Tiger is obviously an extreme case, but in all facets of life, the rich - and for income levels far, far below Tiger's - just have this disconnect with the number one thing the vast majority of us have to worry about or at the very least have a very cognizant grasp of on a very frequent basis.

What do you think? How important is this? Does bypassing these issues make a difference? Do you need to have either experienced some kind of financial burden to understand true monetary value? Accepting that there are obvious exceptions, one must wonder if even those like Bill Gates - who has been far from tight-fisted with his charity donations - have just gone so far beyond the... fuck it I'm wandering now.

And finally, does this go beyond money? Does that disconnect manifest elsewhere?

ILL HANG UP N LISTN LOLLLLLLLL

How do you know he has no real regard for price, or that he didn't wonder how much it woud cost? Most of the rich people I've ever dealt with are the cheapest people I've ever met.

Funny thread coming from a liberal who wants to tax the wealthy and redistribute the wealth.

Most rich people who remain rich or get richer are very aware of the cost of things. But I guess in Tiger Woods case he must have some great private healthcare plan as an top athlete that handles everything for him.

This really is very true

But most of the time there are more things to life than making a lot of money

I saw something once that had different perspectives about buying big items comparing a regular person with famous people. . . like a new car for Angelina Jolie would be like, $2. I can't find it now though. It would have fit nice with the thread title.

I think it very often depends on the particular people, their personalities, and how they accumulate their wealth.

Tiger Woods and Bill Gates weren't born multimillionaires so i'm sure they both have some perspective when it comes to money, even if it's not an immediate concern for them. What you're describing i think is probably symptomatic of children born into wealth...trust fund kids. If Law & Order has taught me anything, it's that trust fund kids are all lying, cheating, valueless murderers.

When I go to hospital I have no regard for the price, I never once worry about co-pays or medical feed or post incident visits or the like.

I am not rich.

I come from a civilised country. :haha:

guys, canadian healthcare isn't any more "free" than our roads garbage collection. sure there's no direct cost to the patient, but we're all paying for it one way or another.

and on the flipside of that coin, i'm sure the american companies that did all the medical R&D did so out of the goodness of their hearts, right? it's not like there isn't any money to be made selling pharmaceuticals and equipment to other countries is there?

this is a pretty silly argument.
