Who was the joker who thought it would be funny to put all of my picks for the 90s songs tourney in my mix?

I really like my mix the more I listen to it. I was turned off the first time and kind of disappointed, but I went back over it and can pick out songs I know and love some of the stuff.

1. Parts of it I thought Thom Yorke was wandering around, but this is

probably my least favourite song. Guitar bit near the end is kind of neat

though.

2. Wolf Parade? maybe Sunset Rubdown. Pretty sure it's that Krug guy. I

like a few of the Parade songs. Never heard this one before but I really

like it. The guys voice fits it perfectly. I skipped to this song by

accident later on and i adore the opening. Reminds me why I loved Dear

Sons and Daughters so much.

3. Kevin Drew? I have always liked this song. Love BSS. Runs along the

same lines, but a bit more haze. I really love this "indie" genre for

certain periods. I listen to tons of it, then move on to something else.

I am still drawn to it though for songs like this.

4. I listened to this mix once through the other night, but now that i've

gone back to it I recognize a lot more. I have heard this song too, but I

can't fucking remember the name of it. The voices of the singers really

stand out in this mix.

5. Interesting intstrumental peice. Not a huge fan of it. Feels like a

prolonged intro to a song.

6. I like the jangly guitar and once again, the voice. Hayden I think?

Pretty sure I just picked up an album of theirs. I was in a sort of

country/folk tinged phase and I really liked this stuff. Once again,

another song I enjoy, that I didn't pick up on the first run through.

7. Sort of a bland song for my taste. After the last few this one just

kind of floats around the background. Nothing really jumps out at me.

8. I'm almost positive the female voice is the BSS girl. I like this

song. I'm guessing an arts and crafts band/bss side band? I really enjoy

the mixing of the BSS members in their various projects. Always a great

result.

9. Destroyer. I've never been able to get into this band. I kind of

enjoy this song though. I think it might be his voice that kind of bugs

me sometimes. Guitars and instrumentation was always interesting.

10. Trumpet or whatever is in the background is sweet. The song kind of

grows on you as it goes on. I find that I didn't remember a ton about it

after it was finished which isn't a good sign. Catchy little song though.

11. Krug again! Methinks. Sort of reminds me of Yeasayer (which I love).

The chants and woah-oh-oh-ooo's are great. Krug is one of the artists

that really draws you in with his voice. He also always has a great sound

behind him. Lots of variation and shit.

12. And again, another great soulful voice. Dan Mangan. How are the rest

of his albums? I've heard a bit of his newest, Nice, Nice, Very Nice.

Pretty sure he is Canadian too which is a huge plus. Great lyrics.

13. It sounds a lot like Krug again, but I wasn't sure if you'd put so

many songs featuring him on the cd. Another excellent song none the less.

This is the perfect kind of mix for me right now. Stuff i've listened to,

set aside and forgotten about, but keep coming back to, and still enjoy.

14. Strings are a nice touch. This is another grower. Kind of boring at

the beginning but it keeps building upon itself. Amazing ending. Wave of

noise with Moby Dick beneath.

15. I felt like 14 was probably the perfect ending. This song feels

tacked on. Granted, I still really like it. The flow of the album was

great up until this. It does kind of feel like an after hours bar song or

something though. As people file out of a concert and the lights fade.

ahaha I googled this song and found it was Johnny and the MOon, which led

me to what cd, which told me this features a guy from hot hot heat and

WOLF PARADE! sneaky.

I think when you reveal your tracklist it will be from the Similar Artists

under Wolf Parade on what.cd lol. I see about 5 of them already. Great

mix though. Flowed together nicely. End on 14 would have been perfect,

with 15 somewhere else in the mix. I'm not sure what I was so

disappointed with the first listen through (skipping around getting an

idea of what you included). I tell others who get your mix to listen to

it all the way through.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll post mine now. I listen through it 3 times, because I have a ton of time at the moment, but won't have much after tomorrow.

hey easthastings, glad you enjoyed the mix. saw that you enjoyed some indie rock here and there so hoped you might enjoy some of these. they are all canadian, that was the common thread there i guess. and since i like wolf parade and the side projects there are definitely some interrelated songs. didn't include and swan lake though. anyways

1. the chocolate robots - used skates. a local band that i love.

2. wolf parade - shine a light. classy song, not krugs though.

3. broken social scene - ibi dreams of pavement. makes me smile

4. the rest - innocent fools. don't know much about these guys but i saw them live on a whim and picked up both their cds.

5. do make say think - in mind

6. hayden - bad as it seems. really enjoy this one too

7. julie doiron - dark horse.

8. jason collett - hangover days. you nailed it jason collett plays with broken social scene some and emily haines of bss/metric is also singing.

9. destroyer - form a thread. huge destroyer fan here.

10. islands - vapours

11. sunset rubdown - the courtesan has sung. some krug with neat rythym/keyboards/harmonies.

12. dan mangan - robots. this song made me be a robot for haloween. so catchy. one of my favorite albums of the year, haven't really heard much else by him though. saw him and his band at a bar here a few months ago and it was the most fun i've had at a show in a while. ended the set with this song and a big sing along from the top of the bar.

13. handsome furs - sing! captain. another wolf parade side project. not krugs though.

14. hey rosetta - a new goodbye. same with you, i wasn't sold on this song at first. but the noise and gang vocals by the end had me won over. was going to see them live this weekend but couldn't get tickets.

15. johnny and the moon - the ballad of scarlet town. you may be right that the last song was the better closer. i was torn there. i liked the thoughts of the big noise of the last song ending with the simple lofi like strumming here. i love this song for some reason or other.

Alright i listened to this thing about a half dozen times and it's a pretty solid mix. I was finding that i was familiar with aspects of almost every song but couldn't place most of them. Maybe i was grasping at straws? There were 3 songs in particular with vocals that sounded suspiciously like some 90's alt rock staples. I'll probably get some flack for even suggesting it  . Great mix. Lots of variety.

1. Great guitar intro, love the wah with the muted drumming. No idea who this is but the dude's voice channels some Cornell-esque moments at times and other times it sounds like it could be Anathema. It's a nice mid tempo rocker that slowly builds until really unleashes at the end.

2. Another mid tempo rocker, a little more melancholy this time. Again i have no idea who this is. The singer has a strong distinct voice that's familiar but i can't quite place it. Not really feeling this one. It feels kinda like a generic 90's alt rock tune.

3. The pace picks up a bit here with a more upbeat rock tune. Not really feeling this one much either. There's nothing i dislike about it, it's just not rubbing me the right way.

4. Katatonia, from the new record. I knew I recognized this but couldn't place it until i noticed that the album art was still tagged. I haven't listened to this album yet, i need to get on that. Great tune. A lush, sombre composition. The fadeout is a shame though.

5. The mood shifts gears into something a little heavier here. A pretty good tune. I like the interplay between the heavy chorus and the minimalist verse and bridge. Love the solo, it's so simple and even cheesy at times but it works. Real strong ending.

6. Another style shift. This ones kind of alt-country. The vocals are quite familiar, with qualities that bring to mind the low register of Mark Lanegan and a delivery that once or twice reminded me of Bowie. The song builds with strings and solos and a female backup and evolves into almost a singalong chorus. A pretty decent tune.

7. And heres the final song with a singer that reminds me of an aged 90's alt rocker. Seriously, it fucking sounds like Perry Farrell (in a good way) with a vibe or leslie effect on his voice. A real up tempo rocker with lots of time changes and direction shifts. The intro and verse have a great sense of urgency before breaking into a chorus that is all over the place. This is one of my favorite tunes on the mix. Good stuff.

8. This one picks up where the last one left off, and pushes the envelope far beyond. Crazy time changes and mathcore riffing. I'm not very well versed in this genre but Dillinger Escape Plan immediately comes to mind even though it's probably not them.

9. This one really, really sounds like Doomriders but i don't recognize it so it's not from Black Thunder or Darkness Come Alive. The whole song feels like one big intro, building and building towards and inevitable explosion. It's an angry bear waiting to be unleashed but it never fully lets go. Awesome song. I expect that the tune that follows after this one it's native album is a fucking all-out ball buster.

10. Unmistakably Clutch. This is a band i'm shamefully not as familiar with as I should be. I always enjoy when i listen to them, but they never really clicked for me. This song is no exception. I like it, but i don't love it.

11. I'm pretty sure this is Battles. I've only heard a couple tunes from these weirdos and this sounds like those. It's a fun song with lots of bizarre vocal lines and guitar tomfoolery. I probably should give this band more face time.

12. Back to the more traditional metal here. Lots of progression, sort of technical metal i guess though it's not brutally heavy or anything. It sounds familiar, maybe or Arsis or something? Not bad but not my favorite sort of thing.

13. The final track begins as a slow, dark, brooding piece. Starting out the vocals are spoken and heavily synthesized to sound very deep and almost robotic, but somehow not silly. They work pretty well with the ambience lending it a somewhat disturbing feel. The song picks up pace spending time briefly wallowing in a pretty cool sludge riff before morphing a into death metal which was totally unexpected. A return to the sludge riffing before a false fadout and fuzzed out closing riff. This song was all over the place but done quite seamlessly. Impressive. I dig it a lot. One of my favorites on the mix.

I'm still at a loss as to who made this. The heavier tunes lead me to believe it could be bond or perhaps BadMusic. The Battles tune makes me suspicious of EastHastings. But honestly i have no idea who for certain. Good job! It'll be interesting to see how far off the mark i was on these.
