Well if Spin the Black Circle could get nominated...

"SANTA MONICA, Calif. - (Business Wire) Innovative illustrator Shepard Fairey has been selected to create the official artwork for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY® Awards."
For some reason, reading that makes me think The Fixer could have a shot at winning. Fairey created the Obama HOPE poster and Eddie has claimed to have some of his work hanging in his home. When you think about the positive message in the song and the fact that those in charge of the whole deal tapped this specific artist for this awards show, maybe PJ could actually win.
Its debatable whether or not the song deserves an award, but Brendan O'Brien was nominated in the non-classical producer category. He produced Springsteen, AC/DC, and Pearl Jam this year. He gets my vote. Great ears.

Shepard Fairey is a hack.

I guess this answers my question:
Notorious for its odd definition of the calendar year, the Grammy eligibility period for 2009 is even shorter and stranger than usual -- covering only 11 months, from Oct. 1, 2008, to Aug. 31, 2009 -- because the academy will air its televised awards presentation earlier than usual, on Jan. 31. These dates eliminate from consideration some of the most successful and acclaimed releases of the year, including albums from Jay-Z, Mariah Carey and Pearl Jam.
