Went to NYU, dropped out after two days, because he disliked the Professors in his classes. Only if i had the brass balls and talent he has.

new film:

Anderson, Hoffman Reteaming on Master Source:Variety December 3, 2009

There Will Be Blood writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson will next helm a Universal Pictures period drama to star Philip Seymour Hoffman as a founder of a new religious organization in the 1950s, says Variety.

Hoffman would play "the Master," as in "master of ceremonies," a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952. The core is the relationship between the Master and Freddie, a twentysomething drifter who becomes the leader's lieutenant. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, Freddie finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.

Hoffman made his breakthrough in the cast of Anderson's Boogie Nights and has also appeared in the Anderson-directed Hard Eight, Punch-Drunk Love and Magnolia.

I love all of his movies, but my ranked list would probably go as follows:

1. Punch-Drunk Love (perhaps my favorite movie of the decade, not sure)
2. Boogie Nights
3. There Will Be Blood
4. Magnolia
5. Hard Eight (Sydney)

It's about time he gave Hoffman the starring role.

I hate hate HATE Magnolia and strongly dislike Boogie Nights. But Punch Drunk Love is a good movie, and There Will Be Blood is GREAT.

I simply adore - ADORE - Magnolia and PDL. TWBB is damn good but not great. H8 is fine. Boogie Nights can go to hell. Very much looking forward to this new one. PT is one of the best young directors out there. He's willing to take risks, but he can also back up his risks with actual talent unlike some youngsters out there who are edgy and risky just for the sake of it.

how a melodramatic movie with a dozen center characters can build slowly and be suspenseful is in credit to the awesome writing by PTA. I love this film as well.

One of Tom Cruise's best performances

i do think there are many merits to magnolia, but its biggest fault is that it isn't a very good movie

Magnolia is just too long and indulgent to me. It builds really well for the first half and then just implodes horribly.

While I like There Will Be Blood I don't think it is a great movie.

I agree that Punch Drunk Love might be his best. A very intense experience and the acting is top-notch.

I thought it was crazy that people called TWBB the best movie of '07 when there were at least three other movies that blew it out of the fucking water.

I thought that one was probably the best out of all three.
