Well, what was talked about several months ago, and for quite awhile, was actually the film being called NOTTINGHAM, it was gonna be pretty much told from the sheriff's point of view, and Crowe was going to play both roles, the sheriff and Robin Hood. Obviously that got canned eventually in development.
While I look forward to this to a certain degree, I seem to be in the minority of people who think GLADIATOR was one of the worst Oscar winners in history. That is, I do think it's a very good film, but that's it, nothing more than a "very good" one. Not even remotely worthy of the best film of the year. It was fairly formulaic. And of course it's kinda cliche even at this point to talk about how this role was the one for which Crowe won the award for Best Actor, when most believe the noms he got in the years before & after (THE INSIDER and A BEAUTIFUL MIND, respectively) were each far better performances, and more deserving.

Well, it's not like I don't know this genre (euro-sword movie...) has its faults.
As long as it's in the realm of Braveheart and Gladiator and not too much like the generic Troy and Kingdom of Heaven
And the reason why I like Gladiator a lot is the music. Fantastic soundtrack. Along with the good acting and epic story.
