Anyone know anything about it? Or own one? Just got it as a Christmas present.

Nikon has also unveiled the D3000, its latest compact DSLR. It will be the company's least expensive DSLR and inherits the 10.2 MP DX-format CCD sensor and 3fps continuous shooting rate from the D60. It also adds a larger, 3.0 inch LCD and the 11-point AF system with 3D tracking we saw in the D5000 and D90.

Holding it, it feels very much like the D40 and D60, though this one feels (and is) a bit lighter. The buttons and whatnot have changed a bit. I haven't actually played with it yet though. Battery still charging.

A tip: Don't use auto modes for anything on your camera.

I've had the D40 and D60 and this seems to function in a very similar fashion. Perhaps it just boils down to me not knowing all the fine details.

Anyway, yea, I've been fucking around with this in all sorts of apertures, ISOs, etc, all day. Fun stuff.

I really don't remember this stuff very well, though, I need to be retaught.

I'm strongly considering either this or the Canon EOS Rebel XS. I think i'm leaning towards the Rebel but they seem to have pretty much the exact same features except the Nikon doesn't seem to have the option for an external cable release for the shutter which is a feature i'm looking for. Correct me if i'm wrong please. Oh and the Rebel will do timelapse (albeit while attached to a PC) and the Nikon doesn't. The Nikon has a slightly larger sensor though.

I went out and actually handled a few cameras last night and i found myself leaning more towards the D3000 over the Canon and the Olympus E-520...the Nikon just felt better in my hand. The other two felt kinda cheap and plastic...almost too light. I prefer a camera with some heft to it.

Also, after some futher research it seems that Nikon offers a wireless shutter release so that's good to know.

for most things yeah, i don't touch auto...but sometimes when you just need to snap a quick picture or risk losing your subject it's necessary.

bought the D3000 last night :D . played around with if briefly until the factory charge on the battery died. I love the menu system. My girlfriend complained that it was too user friendly, in that it offered a lot of tips for correcting mistakes like compensating for poor lighting, etc...but i think that's a fantastic learning tool. I've got a reasonable understanding of the concepts of photography but i can still use help and i'm not too proud to accept suggestions from a camera. Now i'm looking forward to getting back into photography. I'd grown out of my old camera so i'd stopped shooting for a while.
