I think its a pretty bullshit move. Since space exploration isn't going to be picked up by the private sector. Space tourism, would be. 80% of those rockets were built by private companies, so saying that he's leaving it to private companies isn't a good reason. It's one program of many, but it's a bad trend. I haven't liked this guy since I met him like 3 years or so before he ran, and gave his bs nondescript-change-speech then. Now its just another reason. In short, I think its just another asshat move by another asshat politician.

Also, it doesn't help the situation with NASAtv's hiring freeze. I guess I'll never work there.

I think NASA would be considered "low hanging fruit" in fixing our deficit issues. So long space program. At least we have youtube to see what it looks like.

i think big picture-wise its worth it. while we have a bunch of idiots thinking the world is going to end in 2012 because of the mayan calandar... technology and people from government space programs were monitoring an asteroid that is now calculated coming within 30,000km of earth in 2029. earliest data suggested that the world may be struck, but that's been ruled out. I'd rather have those NASA guys working to keep an eye on how the asteroid comes back around in 2035 after its orbit is changed by earths gravity than other places it could go. this is one matter of many that NASA deals with. i would rather have that 6 billion going to nasa which i think its one of the most successful government programs, rather than all the poorly thought out plans we've been seeing coming out of congress.

All funding, (except war and defense), seems to make sense to liberals. It's the cost that's the problem. $6 Billion here, $6 Billion there, sooner or later we're talking about real money!
