fan boyish is 'what kind of shoes are eddie wearing' or 'what kind of wine does he drink'. This isn't any different than checking out an artist the band reccomends.

During Self-Pollution Radio 1995, Eddie mentions to Mike Watt that he has been reading Foucault's Pendulum (by Umberto Eco) -- though you would never know it by Eddie's pronounciation of the title (or Mike's for that matter).
