After lo these many years, have we ever gotten a definitive answer on whether Kenny Wayne Sheperd "paid tribute to" (i.e., ripped off) Yellow Ledbetter on his song 'While We Cry?' It's such a dead ringer for it.....
P.S. I'm well aware he wrote this well before the live version of it appeared on the album 'Ledbetter Heights.'

WWC is the same exact chords as YB. same. exact. KWS jams on them just as mike does during YB.
YB is a bluesy four chord jam. LW is much more than that. i've never really gotten the similarity claims between those two.. aside from their "bluesyness". there's an obvious hendrix influence there in the playing style, but other than that i don't think the two songs are close to being the same.
WWC compared to YB on the other hand..

Sorry, but respectfully you need to listen to both again. WWC sounds a hell of a lot more like YL than either of the two sound like LW.....

yeah that song seems much more like yellow ledbetter than yellow ledbetter seems like little wing. its still hard to say where the influence came from unless you ask the guy directly. id guess "ledbetter heights" is probably more related to huddie ledbetter than yellow ledbetter.

Yea, KWS is a good guitar player but his music isn't original at all. Mostly generic blues stuff. The WWC thing is weird though. It's just too close, and to rip off a very poplular song by what was a huge band at the time, is just... stupid?
One could say they're both meditations over the same chord changes. The guitar tone is similar of course, but they're both borrowing SRV's tone, who of course borrowed his from Hendrix.
To me, the main difference between these tracks is the skill of the players.

it really is kind of a Ledbetter rip-off... but they all come from the Little Wing tree and PJ have a few songs of their own that sound alot like other songs.
