I think theres too much hate for Avocado. It is the worst PJ album, but that dosent mean it isnt a good album, it is, it just dosent stand up against the rest of their catalog.

Comatose, Severed Hand, Marker..., Parachutes, and Army Reserve are all great songs.
Gone isn't great, but I like it.
And I like this album a lot (and I mean, a lot) more than Backspacer. There, I said it.
Agreed on every count. The only songs on s/t I don't dig are Big Wave, Gone and Inside Job. Even Gone isn't bad, though. Inside Job on the other hand...ugh.

I really like Big Wave, at least musically. Lyrically it kinda sucks, but at least it's not trying too hard (and failing) like Inside Job.
I think, apart from Inside Job, this album's not so bad.
I think it would be improved greatly with production more like Riot Act and a different tracklisting - I'll try and find the alternate tracklisting I made that I really liked. Severed Hand to open, OF COURSE.
That album artwork though, for fucking real now, was that some kind of joke?

I like the idea of just having an avocado on the front cover - it's bold as fuck, and there's even room for symbolist interpretations that would work with the themes of the album....I just wish they executed it with a bit more class. I also wish they'd put some thought into the sleeve (and that pic behind the disk is lame). I also like the avocado t-shirts.

I was really into this album for a while after it came out, but the songs did not age well at all. I can't explain why. I never liked Gone and Inside Job isn't good, but I thought the rest were spot on.
Other than SH and Parachutes, I don't have a reason to put in the CD anymore.
