Love Pearl Jam. Very excited about the tour and tonight's appearance on SNL. However, I feel that the band could benefit from a few tweaks to "just breathe" some new energy and life into it:
1. Even Flow - it's become sort of embarrassing watching so many people head for the bathrooms when this song is played live. Why not slow if down to its original bad ass pace and have Ed do the same gestures (butterflies) he used to do?
2. Mirrorball II - get the same cast of characters together, including Neil, and put out a sequel to this. Perhaps it's the rumored EP. Just two or three real, real quality songs.
3. Shuffle the deck again - they do a good job of doing this with their sets for the most part. I suggest they retire "Alive" for a year or so and bring back "No Way."
4. Monkeywrench Radio - another broadcast from Ed's house w/ friends would be super cool; could do this straight through the Internets. Also, broadcast, live, another show, just like they did in Germany in '96. I am a donut.
5. Appear in an SNL skit tonight - Maybe Ed plays a part in one of those "digital music vids" that Andy Samberg does? Ed's known to have a geat sense of humor...

I can agree with giving Even Flow a rest, but not Alive. Also, why does everyone always want Even Flow/Alive/Ledbetter or whatever "retired?" Why cant it just be they dont play it every night anymore and it's more like Black, every few nights or so. It's like people want the song every night or never.

breathe new life into the band by re hashing things theyve already done?
I mean, im all for the band needing to breathe some new energy and life into their existance....and im all for a second mirrorball and monkey wrench broadcast but i think other things need to be done...

This.
Although i dont blame them, its more for selfish reasons.
Some hings theyve done to breathe new life is...put themselves out there more. The whole target thing - new concept, new attempt SNL appearances, tv appearances (story tellers, ACL, Conan, SNL_ etc..etc...
lots of these things dont go over well with the fans but they tried new things.

I'm glad they're continuing to promote the new record, and that it's doing so well. Successful albums now might mean they can put less of an emphasis on older material at concerts. Besides, they've obviously no interest in being the band that time forgot, so maybe the returns on a hit record or two will include a renewed willingness to make more challenging music again.

slow everything down. they play too fast and Ed cant keep up.
skits? hand gestures? who cares other than the people on Synergy???
the band is alive and well. great album = great tour. the 2009 shows are pretty killer in terms of song selection. Ed should retire every song that he doesnt feel anymore. Better Man has somehow become a love song and I dont think Ed thinks about his mom when he plays it anymore, and I cant blame him after playing it at every show for 15 years.

Well, Alive wasn't supposed to be a song you associate with happiness but Eddie said the fans changed the interpretation of the song and made it better. If the same thing happened with Betterman, then I'm sure he doesn't mind.

Alive is probably the only song I'd be happy if they played every night (maybe YL too). Not my favourite song, but it's such an experience live, I'd feel a little cheated if I didn't get it.
