I haven't posted for a while. I was talking to my other PJ nerd friend the other day.
We were talking about the upcoming tour and said we were excited but the abbreviated tours they seem to be doing now are a little lost on us. There was something awesome about 3 legs that go an entire year. I know they aren't kids anymore and have kids of their own, but the band usually needes a couple days just to warm up and in the middle is where they really hit their stride.
so we were joking and was like, "would it be super unpearljammy for them to sign a las vegas show deal? just 6 months wiith 4 shows a week. plenty of time to travel. We've all travelled the world to see pearl jam...now we only have to go to one place. They can play frequently, get set up with a nice recording studio, pop out new songs at shows, release 3 songs eps.
i wonder if they'd consider it for a 3-6 month window. They'd get the stability,, we'd get the shows.
i know it'd never happen, but it seemed like a unique idea.

Yeah, people already complain that the band don't play near them enough!
I get where you're coming from, but it would never work in reality anyway. There's no way Pearl Jam fans would flock from around the globe in such droves as to justify such a run of shows in one venue. I think the fans that travel around a lot actually enjoy the traveling aspect, take that out of the equation and I think you won't see such a devoted following. On top of that, it's only a very small portion of their fanbase that travels around to shows now anyway - the vast majority just sees the band when they play near them. These people (like me) are never going to travel to Vegas to see Pearl Jam, especially if they have families/jobs/etc.

As spenno said, part of the fun is the travelling. Plus las vegas sucks! And anyway I think the band wouldn't like that much.

pfff las vegas is awesome. i would love for this to happen but it would never.
the closest thing would be kind of what Santana is doing, playing at the Hard Rock 30-40 times a year.
the problem with pearl jam doing this is there isn't a venue the right size for them. if they played a 3000 seat venue they'd probably want to charge $200 a ticket and they wouldn't charge that much. also, the idea of a residency in las vegas would be rather cliche for them.
many artists are doing these now but they are all singer/songwriters who are "old". eventually, maybe 10-15 years, we will see some of the 90s groups attempting to do this...maybe.

They aren't popular enough to have that work. However, playing a smaller venue in NY, Boston or Philly 3 times a week for a few months would be more feasible.

Maybe by the time the RM Las Vegas extravaganza happens they might be ready to do something like this.

bon jovi and bruce springsteen have done that out here for like 10-15 show runs. And I'd go to everyone I could afford/get to.

The allman brothers play every march at the beacon theater i believe for like 3 weeks. everyone loves it.
all i'm saying is that the band finds its groove when it plays a lot. the 10-15 concerts that travel the band never seems to fully get it together. they seem to be playing shows to try to appease everyone. whereas when they had longer tours, they kind of did whatever they wanted.
so in that sense, if they are opposed to doing a lot of shows all over the place because of family, would they consider doing more all from one place for a month or so.
it doesn't have to be vegas. i was just using vegas as the model. i get the negative connotations and such. but i'd love more PJ and if that means they pick a couple places and stay a while, i'd like that more than them doing fewer shows spread over a period of time.
